Solo gig set ups

Does anyone doing an acoustic guitar/vocal gig ever set up things in a way that you are more or less using your acoustic amp as your monitor as well. I am thinking in a small/medium venue if positioned right this could work: plus having some powered speakers / PA as well - which in my case is done with the line out of my Fishman Loudbox to an Alto Trouper...

thanks

I used to gig solo for a time after my band crashed and burned.

I used my acoustic guitar and simply ran it into one of the PA channels. The system I had was overkill but it worked.   Now days, the systems are smaller for this sort of thing. I simply turned one of the main speakers enough so I could hear OK. I mean really... how loud do you need to be in an acoustic/vocalist setup?

You are right - how loud? I really need to do a gig with the PA /Trouper and leave the Loudbox Mini at home... need to add one of the boxes like TC Helicon Play Acoustic to get the Fx I want

I don't but if I did I'd check out Bose L1 packages. Never heard it but I like the idea.

Solo gigs usually mean you're not going to have other folks to load in/out or set it up.... so consider the weight of the speakers and mixer/amp as well as their size.

Many of the smaller self contained and self powered speakers sound pretty good.  Remember, if you need to be louder, you can always buy more speakers. But for 99% of the gigs, a small PA will do the job. Factor your budget and go visit some music stores to get an idea of what is available, it's size, weight, accessories, how it sounds, and of course, price.

Well as  mentioned above - the Alto Trouper is pretty nice, sharp appearance and easy to get around - Great sound. It has a wireless link feature for a second one...
