"Solo-safe" for busses

Hi,

Is it possible to "solo-safe" busses in Sonar X1 just like what can be done in Pro Tools?

Thanks.

Can't quite remember. I know in Protools I found it fustrating how soloing a bus didn't allow you to hear it unless the tracks were solod too. I found that 'solo safing' the bus/track (forget which) solved this. Sonar has never needed this as far as I know? Though I know there are some things I do recently where I end up having to solo multiple things..hmm..can't check right now.

If you "solo-safe" a bus/or busses in PT (Ctrl click the S icon on the bus). you can solo other tracks in the project, and you can still hear the output of all busses that are in "solo-safe" mode :)

X1 has Dim Solo. It lowers everything that is not soloed. This is meant to hear a track or track at full volume with all other tracks in the background.

Yeah Dim Solo is the closest thing to that although not identical. To hear specific busses as opposed to all of them you'd need to mute the ones you don't want to hear and you'll also get them at a lower volume, although that volume is adjustable.

Sounds like a good candidate for a feature request though.

One thing you could do is GROUP the bus SOLO button with the solo buttons for its associated tracks.  Just right click the solo button and select the same group for each track you want to link.

The downside, of course, is ALL grouped buttons will go solo when any one is pressed...but if you need to further narrow down your mix, you can mute the ones you don't want to hear, or ungroup them as needed.

Maybe I just don't understand PT's solo-safe feature, but it strikes me as a kludge workaround for a problem that doesn't even exist in SONAR. When you solo a track in SONAR, none of the busses it's routed to are automatically muted (like they might be on a classic hardware mixer, and presumably in PT as well).

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Check out "Solo Override". I believe you will find it is the same as PT's "Solo Safe" It is in the Manual (pdf)

Don I think you have nailed it. But I still am not sure about what Solo Safe is.

At any rate this thread has most of the X1 modes for solo except for selective solo.  My favorite.

One of them should be similar to Solo Safe.

If I solo a buss..... I hear ALL the tracks that are assigned to that particular buss. I can of course mute individual tracks that are feeding that buss..... BUT.... if I want to work on just a track or two, I would rather solo just those one or two or three tracks. Sometimes even more.... it all depends on what I'm working on.

It is very easy to drag tracks around in console view to get my 2 acoustics side by side with the electric rhythm under them and the solo/leads under them and soloing the tracks is easy.....

Now how's that for a feature request being implemented quickly?

Most definitely, that's what makes these forums so great. I'm always learning even after many years of using Sonar.
