[Solved] Audio and Picture Cache Folder. No Shortcuts?

Hello Everyone,

I'm not sure if this has been addressed or not - I tried to do a forum search and couldn't find anything on it, but...

My Platinum folder for Audio is on my external F drive.
I added a shortcut on my C drive that points to that external F drive folder.
I try to point Sonar to that C drive shortcut, however it does not even list that folder as an option.

Does Sonar not allow you to point Audio or Picture Cache folders to a shortcut?

Shortcuts are files. Which is why they don't show up. :)

You want to create a "junction" or a "symbolic link".

Basic explanations and what to do:

Note you have to use NTFS to do this.

That was it. A junction was what I needed.  I had no idea junctions even existed.  That was fantastic js516. Thanks

The whole reason I wanted to do this is because I sometimes forget to turn on my external F
drive where my Audio is stored.

NOW.  all I have to do is start my F drive ( even with sonar running) whenever I forget to turn it on and Sonar doesn't complain that it doesn't have an F: Audio folder and Sonar does create an audio folder somewhere on my C drive and cause me to have to go into sonar settings and re-associate audio folders and stuff.

Sonar obviously does not check the contents of the Audio and Picture Cache Folder.  It just wants it to exist where its supposed to.  Anywhoo......

That is exactly whats going to happen. Sonar will just see an empty directory if the external drive is not on.

Glad to be of help. :)

To eliminate the problems created when SONAR decides to use the default folder I created a junction named "C:\Cakewalk Projects" pointing to my real location.

I use it to move sample libraries to other locations instead of cramming them onto one drive.

Very handy. When I made the jump from Amiga to PC, I was surprised that symbolic links and Soft links (aka junctions) were not supported on Windows at the time. Junctions were available with Win 2k, and symbolic links were (finally) available under Vista.

I've done the same with the Cakewalk Content folder so everything is off the C: drive but I can do a default installation and everything goes where I want leaving Sonar to believe everything is where it wants.
