[Solved] CA2A missing Prochannel module (VST is there)

Hi,

I just signed up in hope for someone with a similiar problem having solved it already.

I got the recent compressor bundle with the CA2A and the PC4K.
After installation, the PC4K shows up as a prochannel module. The CA2A however only shows up as a VST3 plugin and not in the prochannel module list.

I'm on X3 Producer on a fairly fresh W7 x64 installation.
I found a technote about long filenames and the prochannel module location, namely
C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\Internal
However checking there i do not find any hint of the CA2A module, neither folder nor file (while for the PC4K a folder is created).

I also re-ran the installer trying both the 32 and 64 bit installs and I even downloaded and installed the demo package for the CA2A, but neither gives me a prochannel module.

Has anyone encountered or even solved this?

Thanks,
 Sven

The CA2A does not install in the directory with the rest of the ProChannel modules. Try installing the VST2 version of the plug-in into the Cakewalk scan path.

Hi,

thanks for the suggestion. The installer however doesnt give me any options for a VST2 version, only 32 or 64 bit, so I am not sure how I would do that?
But...this gave me the idea though to check where the VST3 module is actually located at all. I found it under
C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins

I moved it to my "global" path which is C:\Progam Files\Vstplugins

And to my complete and utter surprise IT'S WORKING NOW!

Thanks scook! Seems that for whatever reason Sonar reads only the VST3 module when sitting in one path and both the VST and the PC module from another. Wow.

Thanks!

Yes, there are two binaries for the plug-in, one with a dll extension is the VST2/PC version, one with the vst3 extension is the VST3 version. It has been some time since I ran the installer.  I am guessing the file that was in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins was actually CA-2ALevelingAmplifier_64.dll the VST2/PC version. Hopefully these directory layouts will me informative.

On my machine CA-2A is installed like this:
 32bit VST2/PC installed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\CA2ALevelingAmplifier"
 CA-2ALevelingAmplifier.chm
CA-2ALevelingAmplifier.pdf
CA-2ALevelingAmplifier_64.dll
RegHelp.exe
Registration.html
and a Resources directory

32bit VST3 installed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VST3\CA2ALevelingAmplifier"
CA-2ALevelingAmplifier.pdf
CA-2ALevelingAmplifier_64.vst3
RegHelp.exe
and a Resources directory

The 64bit VST2/PC installed in "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\CA2ALevelingAmplifier"
CA-2ALevelingAmplifier.chm
CA-2ALevelingAmplifier.pdf
CA-2ALevelingAmplifier_64.dll
RegHelp.exe
Registration.html
and a Resources directory

The 64bit VST3 installed in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\CA2ALevelingAmplifier"
CA-2ALevelingAmplifier.pdf
CA-2ALevelingAmplifier_64.vst3
RegHelp.exe
and a Resources directory

Hey scook,

thanks for taking the time to further elaborate on this. Now it all makes sense, yes, I have the VST3 plugin in the .../Common Files/VST3 folder as well. So it found that, but not the VST2/PC one.

So what it comes down to is simply the installer using some hardwired path for the VST2/PC which is neither the path that I configured (I use several DAWs, so I do not put my VSTs in a Cakewalk-Subfolder) nor the path that (according to Cakewalk) is hardwired into Sonar for ProChannel plugs (which is C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\Internal).

I am not sure but i dont think i actively removed C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins from my search paths? I rather think i changed that to C:\Program Files\Vstplugins during installation already, because otherwise all the other Cakewalk plugins would probably not be sitting there.

Should I receive a reply to my support-ticket, I'll suggest adding an option to the installer for choosing a target VST-Path or at least have it read the default path from my Sonar settings (or at the very least add some details to the documentation on which search path has to be active within Sonar for the PC dll to be found).

Thanks again for shedding light on this.

I don't know if this helps because my memory is rather sketchy sometimes but I seem to remember an option in X3 that says whenever there is a VST2 and VST3 version of a plugin always use or list the VST3. I don't remember the exact wording but I remember a check box to toggle that.
