[Solved] Cannot record with Sonar

I use sonar x3 producer and the behringer x32 producer. When I use the ASIO driver, I hear sound but there is no sound meter level, and the tracks cannot be armed for recording. I downloaded the ASIO4ALL V2 driver I can see the sound meter levels, the tracks can be armed for recording but there is no sound. Any thoughts?

Hey Leonard. Welcome to the forum!

I use the X32 with Behringer's driver in Sonar without issue, so the good news is it does work:)
There are a few things to check and some info needed to troubleshoot your problem. You may already have been through these.

The sound you are hearing - is it playback from Sonar or just direct monitoring of the input on the x32? I suspect your audio inputs in Sonar may not be active.

Have you checked the x32 inputs under preferences/audio in Sonar to make them active?. Have you set the driver mode to asio when attempting to use the Behringer x32 drivers in Sonars audio options?

What I/O mode is set on the X32, and do all of the inputs and outputs show up in your Sonar audio preferences? Are they selectable or are they greyed out?

Are you using the Xusb expansion card or the Xuf expansion card with your mixer - as you probably know they have different drivers. Is your mixer and it's sample rate listed when you click on the x32 icon on the taskbar to open the mixers utility?

Make sure you have the latest driver version: 6.13 for the Xuf expansion card or 2.23 for the Xusb expansion card. What OS are you running? Are you using Sonar X3e?

Sorry about all of the questions, but the more information you give the more chance of finding the cause.

FWIW The Behringer asio drivers are very solid, so it is worth spending the time finding which setting is causing you trouble. I would advise uninstalling the asio4all driver whilst you do your troubleshooting. It is notorious for driver interference.

Thanks for the info. I removed the asio4all driver and the driver is showing up x-usb asio driver in 1 through 31/32.. There is sound playing on an imported audio track and  I can see the meter level. However, the minute I hit the record button the meter disappears, sonar goes through the recording process but the track does not record. I get only a straight line with no data.  What can the problem be. I tried everything. I am using windows 7. It is the same with sonar platinum. Am I using the wrong driver? The x uf driver cannot load on the system Any help here? it is frustrating.

What is the track's input set to?
What output is the interface/mixer set to?

If the x-usb driver loads and connects to the mixer you have the correct driver (the x-usb expansion card has only a USB output, the x-uf has both USB and firewire)

It sounds as though you may not have the audio routing set correctly.

Have you assigned the channels on the x32 that you are trying to record to the x-usb card outputs? (under the routing tab > card Out on the x32)
Have you set the audio input of the track you are trying to record onto in Sonar to the x-usb channel output that you assigned on the X32? (the drop-down under the track name in track view)
When you record enable the track in Sonar that you are trying to record onto, and play into the assigned channel on the X32, do the channel signal metres in Sonar register anything?

Can I ask how much experience you have with both Sonar and the X32 just so that I know how much detail to go into and not waste your time with basics that you don't need?

    Hey thanks.
Ok, I have been using sonar 6, 8. 8.5, x2 and x3. I first used the M-audio sound card, yamaha analog 32 track channel, the presonus and now the behringer 32 producer since 2013. I used only the MME drivers as I did not need the other channels. I recorded all the time with the MMe driver, but only could have recorded on 1 track actually. Now that I want to  do live recording in the studio I realised I have not truly explored the board. I could not believe rerouting was the problem I am forced to learn it. I tried everything, even changed the computers. And YES the problem was the  routing. I completely overlooked that. It would have saved me changing my computer. Thanks much. Any other problems I will let you know. Thanks so much again.

You're a seasoned pro then Leonard! I only asked because it was your 1st post, which is often misleading, as it was in your case.

Glad you got it sorted. I too am running the Producer for live gigs. Love it:)

    Good luck with the recording.
