[Solved] Emu 1212m and X2, X3

Maybe you can help me. I got my 1212m working under Windows 8 64 bit, but it not working in Sonar. I can watch youtube and hear the sound, I can monitor my guitar direct through the interface. I had this card working with X2 under Win 7 x64, and I have found posts from users using it under Win 8 x64, but maybe there is an issue with Sonar under Win 8 with this device? I get the following message whem I start Sonar and have no Emu inputs to select within a project.

Sonar message:

"The following drivers either do not support the current audio format, or are in use by another application."

4 E-DSP inputs are then listed.

If I can fix this I think I’m good to go. I installed the Beta driver,                                         EmuPMX_PCDrv_US_2_30_00_BETA.exe ,
and Patchmix. I also disabled the onboard soundcard in my system.

Please share any solutions or ideas you may have.

THank you,

Using asio? You should try other drivers type (wdm)...or try to install asio4all
Do you share driver or use exclusive access(exclusive is better)
Really sounds like another app is using it.
You also may try lowering sample rate.switching to wdm will test device and list available modes.

Yes, I use ASIO, I've always heard it was much better and lower latency.
How do I set exclusive access? In the Sound control panel?

I think you are right about another app using it, the current audio format would be ASIO I assume.

I'm going to try this now.

    Thank you

Did you create any ASIO channels in Patchmix?

I have a 1212M that works with X2 and Win7.  I agree with Sanderxpander.  If you haven't done it, create an ASIO channel and "send" it to the stereo channels on the "host".

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

There was an ASIO strip in the default session.
I just found the WDM driver was selected in Sonar Prefs, I changed it to ASIO and my inputs appeared, but...
In the session settings on PatchMix, only 44.1 and 48 kHz sample rates are available.
I can't get below 50ms of latency and my mixing latency settings in Sonar Prefs are grayed out so I can't adjust anything.

SONAR has no control over buffer settings (mixing latency) in ASIO mode, buffer size is set in software supplied with the audio interface.

That's always been a quirk of Patchmix - if you need higher samplerates you'll need to start a new session and specify e.g. 96KHz. I always use 44.1 to be honest.

As for the latency, I don't know what to tell you. You should be able to open the simple E-MU ASIO control panel from Sonar's Driver Settings page in Preferences. That should allow you to set the latency in ms. I'm usually at 5 to 7 just to be on the safe side.

I don't usually go any higher than 48, but it  goes to 192 so it's good to know I can get it in a new session.

Anyway, being quite stupid tonight as after your reply I reopened my ASIO panel and saw the drop-down box for selecting latency. Good to go now, I thank you so much for your help, I guess I forgot what to do since last time I set this up was on Win 7 2 years ago and then used the same settings for just about everything. Thanks a lot really, my world is back together again.

Yeh, I gotta say I'm glad to keep it going. The alternatives for the price still mostly don't match up. Now I hope X3 maintains the peace, I'm thinking of getting it next month.

    IIRC the built-in effects won't work over 48kHz...just a heads-up.

You know, I never use the built-in effects. I wish there was a way to load the mixer without effects. Thanks for the heads up.

If you don't put in any fx they're not "loaded" really. Not to mention they don't take up any CPU to begin with.

I thought they were because Patchmix takes so long to load and the splashscreen says "Loading effects". Those worries are old-fashioned though, with the power of PCs today.

Right, sorry I thought you meant you had fx on and didn't want them. I sometimes use a reverb for when I'm tracking vocals. And peak meters on all tracks. And a 80Hz lows roll off for when I don't want to bother the neighbours too much - fx are useful! :)

Definitely turn off the splash screen though ;)
