I found a bunch of my VSTs in a folder named "Unknown" or something like that. Even EWQL Play was catagorized as Unknown along with Kontakt, so the categorization system is not exactly done, or can mess up.

The Uncategorized folder is new. It appears when the Sort By Category layout is selected. Only VST3 plug-ins have a catagory tag built into the plug-in which may be populated by the manufacturer. All other plug-ins require manual assignment to a category. Cakewalk does include category assignment for some 3rd party plug-ins, the rest are up to you.

Since you posted this suggestion, I deleted that dll and tried again...

When I encounter this problem, I move the dll out of the scan path. Rerun the scan then add the dll back. Often the offending dll will get picked up by the next autoscan. I believe failing dll is not the cause of the problem but a symptom of something happening upstream to it in the scanning process.

@stratrat1 - I'm glad you got it sorted.

As a warning to others, don't go deleting DLL files without a backup. I generally don't delete DLL files. I rename them something like plugin-x.dll.old

@AllanH - That's a great point. There's also a search box in the Browser to help you find instruments, FX, and files.

Yes, that is best or move the dll out of the scan path. The key to renaming is changing the extension. For example renaming z3ta+2.dll to oldz3ta+2.dll will still be read by the scanner. renaming z3ta+2.dll to z3ta+2.dllold (or dll.old or anything except dll, vst3 or ax) will be skipped by the scanner.
