[Solved] Lost x1 on my laptop. Can't restore

Hey experts,
Was trying to clean up my 5 year old laptop.  Now can't use x1.  First time I tried to open X1 got a message saying that a file needed to open X1 could not be found. (did not record name of that file)  Twice I downloaded X1 parts 1/2 from Cakewalk and neither time could get through the install process.  Looked on desktop and cannot find and transfer the software to a flash drive or disc.  Any ideas?  Thanks.
Larry

I am thinking there are remnants of your earlier install still present on your system, and in the Windows Registry.

Prior to installing Sonar again on a system, you want to make sure you completely get rid of the prior install, or strange things can happen, or the 2nd install may not even be able to move forward.

    Bob,
Followed the instructions in the link you provided. Still having problems.  Near the end of installation got a message that part 2 was required which I had already freshly downloaded.  Browsed to where part 2 was (in downloads), hit enter and then got a message "CRC failed in Install\Setup6.bin.  Was instructed to download again.
    Any ideas?

Use a different browser or download manager when downloading part2.

Files are not downloaded properly and/or you may have a memory issue.
This happened to my friend. He had a bad memory stick. Exactly the same symptoms.
Get a free file hash program.
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/hash_my_files.html
Run it on the downloaded Sonar files.
Compare the downloaded hashes to the official hashes.
If the files are OK, get a memory tester.
    http://www.memtest.org/
Make a memory test CD and boot from that.
I can't seem to find the hashes on cakewalk site. Perhaps a baker could point to the proper place.

I had a problem way back when I first downloaded X3 - something with my antivirus software corrupted the download files.

I did the downloads and install again, with my antivirus software suspended, and everything worked fine after that.

I also ran the X3 install with the explicit option of Run As Administrator.  (don't recall if this is still needed or not, I just always do installs this way)

    Sometimes stuff just flakes out,

Well i just tried again to find the X1  MD5 hashes. Nowhere to be found.
If you want to pursue this, I can prob find my X1 downloads and hash them myself.
If you have a fast connection, just follow Bob Bone's advice and try the download again.

It does not look like X1 had/has MD5 Hash values posted for it, so that appears to be the end of that.

I would still suggest you try to download it with your antivirus suspended, and install with Run As Administrator.

Do you have access to another computer, even if it's at a friends house.
And try and use a LAN connection, not wireless, wireless has way more potential to drop out and such.
Bottom line is use the best, steady connection you have.
You should always copy the downloaded files to a back up drive.

Also I think it's super cheap for you to upgrade to X3.
X1 was full of bugs and X3 is the best version.
