[Solved] No Tape Emulator on my Pro channel Sonar x3

I have Sonar x3.  I just watched an instructional video on how to use it, and I discovered that I do not have the Tape Emulator.

What I'm I missing?

Thanks

Hi. Did this happen recently, or has it been like this the whole time? Have you tried to do a vst reset and rescan? Preferences (P), File, VST Settings.

The ProChannel is more of a Platinum feature, it has 11 modules whereas SONAR Professional has 4 modules, Platinum includes the modules in Professional along with the Tape Emulator, Console Emulator, Breverb Sonar, Tube Saturation, PC4K, and PC76 compresosor. Also, the Platinum QuadCurve EQ has a flyout spectrum analyzer function.

The OP says he's using Sonar x3e Professional. He probably means "Producer". If so, the Tape Emulator should be present.

According to the online help, the Tape Emulator PC module is part of X3 Producer

Well if he has Producer, then he should indeed have the Tape Emulator...in which case I recommend the good ol' Reset + Rescan.

Hi. Did this happen recently, or has it been like this the whole time? Have you tried to do a vst reset and rescan? Preferences (P), File, VST Settings.

This is the first time I really started using the Pro Channel.  I have messed a little with it before, but now that I am getting into more mixing, I see that the Pro Channel is a huge asset and I am trying to learn how to use it.  I don't know how to reset the VST and rescan, but I will try to figure it out.  Also, I am going to look into some older projects to see if the tape emulator is present or not.

I have attached a picture to show what the Pro Channel looks like, via a dropbox link.  I am not sure that this the correct way to attach a picture as I don't see it in the post. Therefore, here is the actual link here.  https://www.dropbox.com/s/kb3lc4wbx5vikjt/Pro%20Channel%20Problem.jpg?dl=0  If not, please let me know and I will follow instructions.

    Thanks for the input.

Hi all, and thank you for the input.

I did a full reset, and scan as suggested.  The Pro Channel still does not show the tape emulator.  I restarted the program, and also even restarted the computer, no luck.  I have Compressor, EQ, Tube, and Console Emulator.  That's it, no tape emulator.

I did notice that the manual scan showed that it found 71 plugins found 69 New.  However, when I restart Sonar, that automatic VST scan says found 62 plugins found, 0 New, 0 Removed, 0 errors.  Maybe this information will help explain what is going on.

Also, wanted to mention that I do have Sonar x3 Producer, x3e build 352 - x64.

Any other help and suggestions are much appreciated!
    Thanks

There are several ProChannel modules which are included that have not been mentioned. Are you reporting what you see in the current ProChannel strip or the modules available when trying to insert a module into the strip?

OK, I think I figured out something about this.  I accidentally found the button on the master switch where you can add different modules including tape saturation, others, and even reverb.  This is very cool.

Still confused why I am only finding 62 VST plugins on automatic scan, when 71 Plugins come up on Manual reset and scan.

I suppose it is a bad idea to use the reverb on all of the vocal tracks instead of busing all vocals to send with effects right?

Perhaps one scan is reporting just VST's and the other is including DirectX plugs.

Thanks for responding.  I didn't know about all of the other modules that were available until recently.  I found the button next to the power button on the Pro Channel that includes several modules i.e. BReverb, Console Emulator Bus, Console Emulator Channel, Saturation Knob, Tape Emulator, FX Chain.  Apparently these are all of the modules that can be added to the Pro channel strip.  I also see that you can have more than one instance of them on the strip.  I have a lot of learning to do.

I need to find a good source for all of this, any suggestions.

When I run into something problematic, I check out the documentation and/or do a google search on the site. Either way is much faster than posting in the forum - particularly because if it's pilot error, peoples' suggestions will often lead you astray because they'll assume you need a technical solution. There are also references like the Garrigus books, my SONAR columns in Sound on Sound, and the like.

The good news is that after a while, things fall into place and you can be very productive. The bad news is you can always learn more...not unlike playing a musical instrument. After doing recording for over 50 years (I got an early start, haha), I know just enough to get by...but when I don't, there's always the forums

Correct. It's normal to insert sends on any tracks which would benefit from a single Effect, such as reverb or delay and use a bus to insert your choice of reverb plug.
Make sure the effect is set to 100% wet, or kill the dry signal if such an option exists.

I definitely have a lot of pilot error with software.  I engineered for many years on an analogue console.  I am amazed at what you can do with this software.  I will take you advice and check out the docs, and google search.  It's great to know that the forums are there too.
