[Solved] Rapture Pro and Moved Sample Data

Hi guys. I moved the sample data file for RP after installing it, to another drive - like it's 17Gb's and I wanted to unburden my SSD. Some of the samples no longer play. Does anyone know how to re-associate this folder with RP? Or is it not possible and I have to re-install RP?

Thanks

There are two main ways to solve this: using linking or a registry hack (neither is as intimidating as they sound!). This thread has a lot of info on registry hacks and some info about linking. scook is our resident expert on many things, including linking, so he may see this thread and provide additional information.

Rather than guess about what has been done and how to fix it, if you can provide details about what has been done including
    • the copy process (for example C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Sample Data\Rapture Pro was moved to z:\xxx\Rapture Pro)
    • registry changes
    • and any other OS changes such as directory junctions

I will help you restore RPro functionality.

Hi all. Yes I have a lot of expansions...too many methinks.

Bob Bone  sent me this which I was going to have a look at...'
in regedit, navigate to: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Rapture Pro\2.0'
Haven't tried it yet. But I don't see any paths to the sample data, which is the only thing I moved.

Thanks Scook: I moved the Sample Data file only from: C:\Cakewalk Content\Sample Data\Rapture Pro, to J:\Cakewalk Content\Rapture Pro....this latter folder has 4 different foloders of Lfo waveforms, multisamples and tunings.

    regards

Don't mess with the registry. The RPro sample path is not in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Rapture Pro\2.0 anyway.

Try typing this in a cmd.exe window running as administrator:
    mklink /j "C:\Cakewalk Content\Sample Data\Rapture Pro" "J:\Cakewalk Content\Rapture Pro"
This will create a directory junction at the old location pointing to the new location. Note: "C:\Cakewalk Content\Sample Data\Rapture Pro" cannot exist before issuing the mklink command.

Are you sure the path was "C:\Cakewalk Content\Sample Data\Rapture Pro"
The default is "C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Sample Data\Rapture Pro"
Make sure to use the correct path
IOW if you moved the data from the default path, the command is
    mklink /j "C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Sample Data\Rapture Pro" "J:\Cakewalk Content\Rapture Pro"

Well I'm confused. How can C:\xx not exist when Sonar already created it during install? Do you delete it?

I'd rather get RPro running for the user than address this ATM but the path would not exist if the user has already MOVED "C:\Cakewalk Content\Sample Data\Rapture Pro" to "J:\Cakewalk Content\Rapture Pro"

Hi. I had to include this: mklink /j "C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Sample Data\Rapture Pro" "J:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Sample Date\Rapture Pro" as initially not found...once I added the aforementioned, the message was 'Junction Created for...then I realised 'whoops' put in 'date' not 'data'. I changed this and it tells me it can't create a file when that file already exists.

The command will not overwrite "C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Sample Data\Rapture Pro"

As I mentioned above since you moved everything under "C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Sample Data\Rapture Pro" you can safely delete the "Rapture Pro" folder in "C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Sample Data"

You must do this before creating the directory junction with mklink

Okay, I think I see what you're doing...creating a 'shortcut' to where the files now live. So I deleted what I mistakenly created and did the paste into command prompt and when it did its thing. Now when I click on this file in C, it takes me to J.

Would not just creating a shortcut from J Sample Data to C Sample Data achieve the same thing?

No, a shortcut will not work. While it looks similar to a shortcut, a directory junction is a different type of filesystem entry.

Good news. As far as RPro is concerned nothing has changed. Any new expansion packs will also follow the directory junction and install in the folders on J.

    Marking as solved....done
