[Solved] SONAR randomly skips drum notes
Hello, I am pretty new to SONAR, so maybe this is a problem, that many had before me. I use SONAR mainly to record guitar and bass lines and then add a drum computer track, using, for example, the SI Drum Kit 2. My problem now is, that SONAR randomly skips notes on that drum track. So my drum machine sounds more like some drum student, who leaves out some note once in a while :-/ That is especially annoying, because it happens, when I export a track, as well. I tried different export setting, but nothing seems to help.
Does anyone has any idea, what I could do?? Is it because the computer I am running SONAR on, is not really "high end?. Is all this just too much für the CPU, so that it has to skip notes?
Thanks in advance and best regards, Marcus

What kind of track have you set up for the drum kit? Are you using piano roll or step sequencer? Are you making your own beats or using pre-made loops?

Try modifying (up and down!) the "Prepare using *** millisecond buffers" in preferences/MIDI/Playback and Recording.

welcome to the forum Marcus. this sounds like a classic case of buffers being set to low. try adjusting your buffer size, I believe 500 is the target your shooting for. Edit > Preferences > MIDI - Playback and Recording My advise is to give us some basic info such as your PC and more importantly your audio interface. as the more info you leave, the more we know what your problem is. you can leave that in your signature=see mine below or put it in your comment.

Yes! Increasing the buffer size actually seems to solve that problem! Thanks a lot chuckebaby! I am really happy, that this had such an easy solution. (Although I ask myself, why they do not use 500 as default?) Thanks again! Marcus

well every system is different my man. what may work on your system at 500, might work on someone else's at 250. its impossible for sonar to calculate the exact buffer rate. they give you a best case scenario default # and if its skipping notes, then you just have to have a degree in rocket science to figure it out . but seriously, I believe they should use 500 as a default. though as I said, everyone's system is different. Glad your back to making great music. Good luck, Chuck J

I think it defaults to 250. I made mine smaller for some reason and started missing midi notes. back to 250 it works fine, just depends on your system.

It used to be 500ms. It was changed in X2 or X3, IIRC. I never got an answer as to why it was changed to 250ms. This has probably generated 10 threads about missing notes and I have answered a few myself. Seems like with the support issues lately, a simple change in 2016.8 could help.

Its good to get familiar with how this parameter effects SONARS performance with your particular system, as it may help you troubleshoot other issues you may encounter. Welcome to the forums!
