[Solved] Splat not responding.

My old interface died (Firestudio 2626) and I've replaced it with a Studio 192.

I can create new projects ok, they save and load perfectly fine,  but old projects (created with the Firestudio) refuse to load leaving Splat "not responding" and the only way to kill it is with task manager.

Yes, I've tried opening in safe mode and saying no to every plugin,  doesn't help.

The only difference I can see is that the Firestudio had built in MIDI, whereas the Studio 192 doesn't.
I guess it's something to do with the midi because it turns my Faderport (connected with midi) into a dancing disco...
The physical audio outputs are in a slightly different order, but they're all there and enabled in Preferences.

Is there anything I can reset?  ini file I can delete and rebuild?  I've tried turning off ALL midi ports and once I get past the many warnings that there are no midi ports it still does the same (locks up opening old projects (but without affecting the Faderport which now has no midi))

I'm getting desperate now as I've a project to complete with a deadline of next Friday...!!

rename the aud.ini associated with your version of sonar to aud,old and restart sonar?

It could be a hidden window asking for input that is the problem. If you are on Windows 10 use (Windows key + tab) to see all the open windows.

Maybe a full repersonalize by holding the CTRL+SHIFT while starting SONAR. This will reset some registry entries and overwrite your user directory including AUD, Cakewalk and TTSEQ ini files. You may want to copy your existing user directory somewhere if you want to recover customization.

It's similar in that I've got a new interface, but I can't load any projects created with the old interface, even in safe mode.  Sonar seems to go into a recursive loop and the only way to kill it is with task managers "end task" command.

Does it lock up if only the audio interface is connected to the PC? IOW, disconnect the faderport and any other other MIDI devices from the PC, reboot and launch SONAR.

Renaming AUD.ini does the same thing the CTRL+SHIFT while starting SONAR does, except for that file only.

Try changing your new interface's bit rate/depth to match what you used in the old project first, before opening the project. It kind of sounds like your interface is hanging when trying to switch. Just a thought...

Re: Splat not responding. 2016/01/15 15:28:15 (permalink)
ok, several reboots and panics later....   (I dropped the Faderport usb cable behind the back of the desk and had to mount a major expedition to retrieve it..)

Delete aud.ini  Didn't help
Start with ctrl-shift   Didn't help
Open project with Shift (say no to all plugs)  Didn't help
Remove all midi  Didn't help
Remove audio interface  Didn't help

Some combinations of the above actually made it worse,  new projects that would open stopped opening...

I've managed to restore it back to the original ini file and midi/audio config and now I'm back where I started.
I can create NEW projects perfectly fine and everything works exactly as expected.
I can't open old (read last week) projects that used my old interface.  Sonar goes into a loop and locks up.

Getting desperate now...

I don't have a specific midi interface any more.  It's all USB devices with their own midi...  I need to get one.

hi Karyn, in Preferences/Midi/Devices, perhaps still try to get a midi device set
If you have no Midi controller, perhaps try ticking 'Microsoft GS...' + 'use friendly names' + 'Warn about no Midi devices.
If you have a midi contr. set, check if it's set in 'Midi'/ Instruments'
good luck

Re: Splat not responding. 2016/01/15 17:08:20 (permalink)
ok, I'll rephrase that.

I have midi devices configured in Sonar.
Faderport
Studio 192 (for preamp control)
Alesis USB IO drum trigger
m-audio keyboard...  oh, that's missing...

All are actually USB devices that report as midi, I don't have an actual midi interface anymore. My old audio interface had midi ports on it, the new one doesn't.

Hi Karyn, sorry, again didn't look into it very good...
personally I would return the Presonus and get a RME for the same money with Midi ports (RME UCX or RME 802)
they're professional gear and known for good preamps too, go up to 192Hz.
German company so usually good customer support
Or contact Presonus (forum) what to do...

Just throwing some darts into the air.  Obviously feel free to ignore if you feel I'm way off-base....

Just to rule out that this one project is corrupt -- I assume you've tried to open more than one old project...?

MixControl -- Same version as before?  Was it completely uninstalled/reinstalled?

Any other utility in startup trying to communicate with the 2626?

If you're not using your firewire anymore, wouldn't hurt to disable the port.

Thanks for the response, however I'm not convinced the Studio 192 is at fault.
It works exactly as expected for new projects, there's nothing wrong with it.  Sonar only locks up with old projects created with my old interface...
and if I disconnect the interface Sonar doesn't complain about silent busses,  it still locks up...

All my devices connect with USB, using midi drivers.  Sonar sees them as midi devices.  I simply don't have any physical midi ports.

Oops, sorry, I was confusing Focusrite with Presonus.  (It's their driver software, but you said you already deleted the driver.  I'd look in Programs anyway, and make sure there isn't old software associated with the older unit).

I tried a total uninstall of the interface, Sonar complained that there was no interface then locked up.
I've reinstalled the interface, now Sonar won't open ANY projects..

You mentioned the Faderport dancing back and forth. In the past mine has done that too, and the project wouldn't load. Finally one day while the faderport was dancing, I grabbed the fader and moved it. When I did that, sonar popped up a window saying that there was a missing VST plugin. I clicked ok, and the project loaded fine. The missing VST had parenthesis around it. I deleted it, and never had another problem loading the project. So when the faderport dances, move the fader and see if you get a message.
