[Solved] Trouble importing MP3 files

I'm unable to import MP3 backing tracks into Sonar Platinum. The files show in the browser, but I can't drag/drop, or import into a track. Double clicking the file does nothing as well. Can anyone give me some guidance as to what I may be missing?

Not to import however mp3 files can be copy protected. If they are copy protected, I do not believe import is possible.

herbroselle, I'm not sure what you mean by licensing. How do I accomplish that? This files are purchased backing tracks (mp3).

SONAR does not require a license to import mp3 files. My bet is on the files being copy protected. Contact the seller and see if you are allowed to use the files as you plan.

I've had this problem before and again the other day when trying to import a file from my mp3 player connected via USB port. I found that moving the file to a location on my pc HDD and importing it from there worked though. No idea why that should make any difference, but it did in my case.

Just got a reply for the seller of the backing tracks, and there is not type of copyright protection on the files. I tried various mp3/mp4 files, with no luck. This must have something to do with Sonar. I can play them in my audio player on my computer??

Yea, this can be a combination of the type of file it is, the folder area of where it is (Windows may deem it 'protected' from the User permission directory and so forth), or the level of Administrative rights...........The virus protector kicks in and probably marks the files, etc.

I never tried importing an MP3 before, but just tried a 192Kbps MP3 file and it worked OK.   I have Platinum version.

Okay, got it figured out. For some reason it would not import from my external storage drive. Moved the MP3 files I wanted, into the Audio folder (cakewalk) in the browser, and Viola!
    Thanks for all the input.

mp3 files must be converted to wave during the import process. I am not sure where that conversion takes place, it may be trying to write to the device hosting the mp3 which may explain why the import process is sensitive to the location of the files.

You can't import from compressed files either. Like, if the file is zipped, you have to unzip it first.

gswitz, that's exactly what the issue was. The root folder was a zipped folder. That's why Sonar couldn't access it.
After unzipping the folder, I can open the files right from the browser window. The folder icon was so small, that I didn't realize it was zipped! Thanks to all for the help.

Nice. You might update the subject of your first post to say solved. That'll save people the trouble of reading the thread.
