(Solved) VST Scan on startup

Hi all,

My startup scan is hung up on a Waves API-2500 plugin. I can't stop it but can still work on projects. What's to do?

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Solved problem by changing Prefs - VSTs - Scan manually & unchecked the boxes. No longer hung up on manual scan.
Thx Craig for suggesting backup of Plug in Layout. It could be a real lifesaver.

Hey Dan. I had this happen recently with the same plugin.  I just closed Sonar, restarted windows and the scan ran as it should when I re-opened Sonar. Worth a try if you haven't already.

With WAVES plugs it used to be recommended to do VST reset and full VST re-scan ... although I haven't needed that in a while (as Sonar & WAVES play together a lot better now than they did in the X days) ... still a VST reset and rescan might be worth a try

Thanks for replies. Odd that we both stalled on the same plugin Bruce. Still have the same problem though.

Question before trying reset - doesn't it put all plugins into default folders. I'd hate to have to recreate my custom folder work that took ages to do.

Shot in the dark -- have you transferred the license for that plug-in to your system in Waves Central?  I carry my Waves licenses around on a USB stick and I've found that Waves plug-ins don't play nicely with SONAR if the license isn't available (on either VST scan or loading a project with a plug-in).  Sometimes there is a friendly popup window from the plug-in letting you know the license is missing, sometimes SONAR hangs completely.

Just back up the .PGL file you created. You should do this anyway to make sure some future upgrade doesn't overwrite it, or if there's a hard drive failure and you need to re-install. The default location for these files is C:\Users\[you]\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR Platinum\Plug-in Menu Layouts.

i wouldn't say this is solved.

something broke in the latest update of Sonar, this is happening on a new fresh install of windows and Sonar, same Waves install I used last time and it worked... now it's not.  All the sudden this is happening for several users...

Haha - funny you should say that. My scan is always set to manual - the problem came up when I installed a new plugin and initiated a scan. As I said, all was OK when I restarted and the new plugin showed up, so you may see this next time you add a plugin and need to do a vst scan.

Silverbluemedallion is right - it is not so much solved as postponed and avoided. Still, you are up and running. The DAW version of Gaffer tape:)

Weird. I have the latest SONAR and latest Windows 10 update, and have no problems scanning Waves plug-ins. This includes the API-2500, and SONAR is set up for automatic scan. Go figure.

I suggest contacting Waves support. I've needed to contact them in the past, and they're great. (And it's not just because they recognize my name, I know many others who have had the same experience.)

As I said the scan only stopped on this plugin once for me, and after a resart all was fine. I have rescanned since without issue. If something was broken in the update many more people would be complaining I suspect.

So you are unable to install your Waves plugins at all? Which version of the waves installer are you using? There may have been an update since your last rebuild.
