[Solved] V-Vocal crashes both X2 and X3 now!
I had both Sonar X1 Producer 32 and 64-bit on my rig, then I purchased X2 Producer 64-bit and installed it on my computer, and they both ran well and co-existed for years. When I purchased Producer X3, I thought, well, maybe I should uninstall both X1 versions to make room for X3 64-bit (leaving 64-bit X2 in place). Everything seemed to go OK. I installed X3 and it went well and seems to run well, except that now, V-Vocal will not run. It crashes both X2 and X3. Now, I'm wondering what went wrong...Any ideas? Melodyne Editor v2.0 seems to work well, but I still have some projects that I need to finish up with V-Vocal. Also, I had become quite proficient with V-Vocal and I sort of miss that tool. Upon crashing, I sent the dmp files to Cakewalk, but no answers or solutions have been heard from them (yet).

Most probably the X1 uninstaller took out the VVocal content files and left the dll which is why its crashing. You will probably have to reinstall VVocal from the X2 disk to restore its installation files...

Thanks, Noel. I was hoping that there might be some kind of solution to the problem. You've given me hope. I will post back after trying your suggestion. Thanks.

Looked at X2 disk, but V-Vocal is not listed separately. I wonder if I would want to install the "Libraries" files or the "Audio Plugins" files?

It is the SONAR install (Disk1) but when given the option choose Advanced install. The Advanced install will provide a checklist of components to install. V-Vocal is a plug-in in the checklist.

Thanks, Scook. I did do the advanced install, but it was not listed in the plugin list. I went ahead and installed the Sonar main program and it did indeed appear as a region effect like Melodyne does and I amd able to invoke it. However, it turns out that the actual ability to view the yellow pitch lines are not there, therefore I am unable to manipulate any pitch lines like I used to. Any ideas?

I do not have X3 installed. You could validate V-Vocal function in X2.

So, I guess the bigger question is, does Sonar X3 still have the ability to utilize V-Vocal, or is it only an X2 and earlier utility?

Oh, by the way, it does work correctly in X2 now. That's why I'm questioning if it is broken in X3...

OK, everybody. I think I finally figured it out. Earlier, I had broken up the vocal track into sections by splitting them in order to be able to work on short segments. I then highlighted the short clip and opened up V-Vocal under Region FX. Like I said, it did call it up, but with no pitch correction. Then, I thought, maybe I should just drag the cursor across a section of the audio as if it were an unbroken, unsegmented track. Voila! It works. So, it looks as if all I have to do is merely highlight the section with the mouse, choose Region FX and invoke V-Vocal and it WORKS! Thanks to those who assisted me with this problem!

I had this very problem the 1st few days of working with X3. (also broke my v-vocal) What fixed my system, was an odd sequence of trying (comparing) Melodyne 2.1.1 and Sonar`s X3 essentials version. 1st. Deactivating Melodyne2.1.1. 2nd. Trying Sonar essentials, another re-license moment going thru the licensing at Melodyne 3rd. Then deactivating X3`s Melodyne essentials, 4th. Then re-activiting 2.1.1 Melodyne again. (repete as necesary?) I may have done this a few tries, It`s works now for me Both v-vocal and Melodyne 2.1.1 are running fine for me. I use both in every project, but with the lastest Melodyne integration, I probably be using a lot less of v-vocal. This Fixed my X2 v-vocal crashing also. Good luck, Don Belisle Q6600, i7, i5, 8 gigs mem typ, X3b, Motu MKIII, other goodies

Don, thanks for the advice and tips. I think I have it sorted out finally, thanks to Noel who started me on the path to the solution of the problem. I, too, like to use both. I never saw the Melodyne Essential version upon install since it detected my Melodyne Editor v2.1.1, so it did not get installed. It's just that I'm so used to using V-Vocal over the years that it was hard for me to give it up outright. I have caught on to Melodyne Editor lately and I will eventually gravitate over to it full time. Thanks again.
