[Solved] X3e not saving EQ settings?

I tried searching for this topic and didn't see it. I am running X3e on a windows 7 machine and tonight I did a lot of mixing with many EQ adjustments to lots of tracks. I saved the project but when I reopened the track, the EQ is turned on but none of my EQ changes were saved.... The EQ is totally flat. Is anyone else experiencing this? Surely this can't be a bug as this is pretty major.

Thanks

Joe

Are you using the Pro Channel EQ or a 3rd party VST?

At the risk of getting flamed - if you are on the Pro Channel, that was my experience with X1. I'm sorry to say but that unpredictability led me toward a new DAW. I still use Sonar for many projects, but I don't use Pro Channel because it scares the hell out of me for that very reason.

EDIT TO ADD: I appreciate that you marked my post as helpful, but in fairness everyone else is doing a much better job of helping  As this thread continues to grow I realize that I was encountering a different problem than you were... I am leaving my post in tact (for reference/honesty) but it's not very relevant at this time...

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I am using the Prochannel EQ. I mixed several different songs only to find out later that none of my EQ settings were saved on any of the tracks, You can imagine how upset I was. It is a very basic and important function.

I really need an answer to this immediately. I will be calling tech support tomorrow.

Thanks

I've never had this problem and have saved a ton of projects with ProChannel EQ over the years, so I'd be curious as to what tech support says.

The only thing I can think of is if it's an older project that had the Sonitus EQs as defaults in the channels. You had to replace the EQs if you wanted to use the ProChannel versions, but the settings didn't translate - the ProChannel initialized flat and you had to re-create the Sonitus settings. This was one of the growing pains of transferring from 8.5 to X1, but you did end up with better EQs.

Thanks

As a test I opened a new project in X3 with a single audio track. Again, it did not save the EQ settings.

One possibility is that sometimes when I turn on the EQ I get window stating something like "you are using a older version of quadra EQ and may need to reinstall sonar." This does not happen everytime. Maybe this is a hint? I have X1 and X2 on the same system.

Anyt thoughts? I appreciate your help!

That sounds like a big hint to me. If this was a common problem, I'm sure the forums would be lit up like a firecracker on July 4th. Getting this problem on one track as opposed to some huge complex project that was ported over from 8.5 is definitely not the way things should be.

The Quad Curve EQ has gone through some changes since it was introduced. Sounds like maybe the X3e install didn't "stick." I would suggest re-installing Sonar and making sure that any kind of anti-virus or program that scans your system is off. I think it would also make sense not to carry over personalized settings...see what happens.

Do you think there would be any benefit to uninstalling X1 and or X2?

I also think your personalized settings comment is a good one.

Thanks

I doubt it, I have a bunch of versions side by side with no problems. It's sometimes helpful to be able to test on previous versions to help out here in the forum. Also there are plug-ins with X2, like R-Mix and V-Vocal, that you might want to end up re-installing anyway.

That said, if you don't plan to use X1 or X2, you can uninstall them and re-install anything that's missing later.

Let us know how it works out for you...you're definitely experiencing something that should NOT be happening.

Anderson,

I am going to reinstall X3 this afternoon.

I understand about the title. I have used cakewalk for many many years and try to keep things positive.

Btw, I have x3 on another machine and I tested the EQ there and it works fine.... Clearly it's something with my main studio machine.

I really appreciate your help.

Thanks

Rather than go through an entire reinstall out the chute, try downloading (again) and reinstalling just the X3e patch. The X3e patch contains both the main SONAR program and QuadCurve EQ.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

I just reinstalled X3 and then applied the patch and I am getting the exact same error window and the EQ settings are not saving. Also during the install I did not get an option about keeping my prior settings.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks again

If it's machine-specific, that's not my field of expertise. Before doing anything drastic, someone like scook might have an answer but lacking that, I suggest a call to tech support if installing the same software on two machines gives different results.

Called out twice in one day. The last time was not so successful. Maybe this time will be different.

Before installing X3e again or whatever version of X3 you choose to install that has the QCEQ, delete or move out of the VST scan path "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\Internal\PCS-GlossEQM.dll". This should insure the installer actually installs the new QCEQ. Also make sure there are no other copies of the PCS-GlossEQM.dll in the VST scan path.

This is copy and pasted from the Steam forums in which Seth answers a question from someone else who has experienced the same thing:

First thing I would do is go to Edit > Preferences > File > VST Settings.
Change to 'Manual Scan' in the drop down under Scan Options.
Click, Rescan existing and rescan failed plug-ins.
Then click on the [Reset] button under Scan Options.
Once the scan finishes, set it back to automatic from the drop down.
Then test again.

If the issue persists after this reset/rescan, I recommend you call our tech support line. They'll help walk you through some extra steps and tests to get your issue resolved.

message, if this is the error being received. When this has happened, it was the result of installing an older version of an X-series version of SONAR with ProChannel after X3 or a yet to be explained install error. For some reason, the older installer overwrites the PCS-GlossEQM.dll or the current installer fails to write the current PCS-GlossEQM.dll. It can also happen if a second older copy of PCS-GlossEQM.dll is in the VST scan path.

Re: X3e not saving EQ settings? 2014/05/18 23:31:34 (permalink)
Thanks for everyone's help.

I tried what scook suggested. I moved that file, ran the X3e patch and then tested the EQ. The results were odd. The EQ opened but when I went to move the frequency nodes, the nodes disappeared. I put the file back in its original placed, open sonar and during the scan it said it found one new plug-in.... I am sure it was the one I just moved.

I then did what sharke said and it didn't work either....

I am going to move the file again that scook described and simply reinstall X3 and see if that solves the problem. If not I will call tech support tomorrow.

I really appreciate everyone's help.

Usually a second copy would not be a problem. It would take an active effort on your part to create a copy of the PC modules and place them in the VST scan paths specified in Preferences > File > VST Settings or in a folder under the existing PC modules path. I only mentioned it as it is a possibility and was mentioned in the past when solving this issue.

If you are going to reinstall X3, which sounds like a good idea, make sure it is a clean re-install. Run the uninstall
process, remove the registry keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\X3
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\X3
, double check that the old PCS-GlossEQM.dll is gone. Then reinstall X3, apply the X3e patch. Although probably unnecessary if it has already been performed. reset and rescan your plug-ins http://www.cakewalk.com/S...ommended-for-Upgraders one more time.

Ok I give up for the night. I moved the .dll file from the directory, reinstalled sonar, added the x3e patch and got the same error. I did not do a clean uninstall first because I was already installing it when I saw your post above. How in the world could sonar pick up in a previous version of the EQ when I moved that .dll file? Urgh

Tomorrow I will do an uninstall and a clean install.... I certainly hope that solves this.

Thanks again.

Sounds like you may have another copy of the eq on your hard drive. Do you have both the 32 and 64 bit versions installed? I would suggest you do a windows search and see if there is more than one copy of the PCS-GlossEQM.dll file on your hard drive. be sure to search the hidden files and folders.

When you ran the installers did you use the run as administrator command and disable the AV temporarily?

Tom,

Thanks for your response.  To my knowledge, I only have the 64 bit version installed.

I will do a search to see if that file is anywhere else as well.

I did not install this software as adminastrator.

Finally, I don't understand what you mean when you asked did I disable AV?  Can you explain what you mean?

Thanks for your help!

AV = anti-virus, as mentioned in post #6. Run as administrator seems to be pretty important.

Yes as Craig said av is antivirus. If you right click on the installer a menu will appear just choose the "run as administrator" option.

Re: X3e not saving EQ settings? 2014/05/20 10:44:20 (permalink)
I spoke with tech support yesterday and they offered a couple solutions.  To this point, I have only had time to try to replace the the .dll file with the one they sent and it did not work... basically I experienced the same problem as when I totally removed the .dll.  I could open the EQ but not edit the nodes... so no progress.     The instructions about the C++ files makes me a little nervous and I thought I would ask you guys about it before I went through the process...  I don't want to alter files that will impact other probrams etc.  Also, the guy at tech support was unfamiliar with this issue.  Here is his email:

Hi Joe,
Thank you for contacting Cakewalk.
I recommend that you re-install your Microsoft C++ Redistributable Libraries. Many third-party applications will install these so sometimes the libraries can get skewed as multiple versions exist on the same computer. This may be why things are running smooth on one computer but not on another. It might not be SONAR at all, but more so the C++ libraries. Please do this:
Go to Start > All Programs > Programs and Features and to uninstall any Microsoft C++ Redistributable Packages listed. Afterwards, download these packages directly from Microsoft and re-install them. I have listed the most common Redistributable packages below. If you’re on a 32-bit operating system, I'd get the first three. If you’re on a 64-bit operating system, the second three. If you run both 32-bit and 64-bit SONAR on a 64-bit operating system, install them all.
For 32-bit operating systems or 32-bit programs on 64-bit operating systems:
For 64-bit operating systems:
The Visual C++ Redistributable 2012 page contains installers for both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679. You'll be downloading three files: vcredist_x86.exe, vcredist_arm.exe and vcredist_x64.exe. You'll only need to run the vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe.

Additionally, you will find a new .dll file attached for the Quad Curve EQ. Upon downloading, please replace it with the initial one in your Cakewalk Shared Utilities > Internal folder. If you continue to run into issues, please let me know.

Any thoughts onthe above?

Thanks for everyone's help!

Joe
