[Solved] Yes another Session drummer 3 issue

Sorry guys, I know there have been a lot of posts regarding SD3 where it doesnt load...the DLL isnt picked up etc etc.   And despite all the tips on registering the dll it still wont play soldiers.   At this point , am I better off buying a copy of say Addictive Drums.
For 99 bucks its not a bad price and I'd rather just install a drum system that just darn well works instead of all this DLL nonsense that SD3 seems to present.     Anyone using Addictive?    Seems to get good reports on any of the Youtube stuff Ive seen.
Thanks
Xave

Hi. Which version of SONAR do you have? It was included in (at least) X3 Producer, SONAR Professional and Platinum (2015-2017). I like it.
Must say that I haven't had any issues with SD3.
    All the best.

Search your hard drive for "SessionDrummer x64.dll".  Make sure that the folder that file is installed in is listed in your VST scan path.  Edit > Preferences > File > VST Settings > VST Scan Paths.

If the path is already there, try the reset & rescan.

If your file is missing, try reinstalling the plugins with the Cakewalk installer, or use Command Center.

Never had a problem with SD3.  It is something that just always works.

You should check out the Air software's Strike 2. It was on sale for only $43 a while back, not sure of the price right now. AD2 is OK but you have to purchase all the sounds. It comes with a skimpy library. Strike2 comes with more samples that anyone could possibly use.
It works differently than Session drummer so you have to read the manual.
But it took me no time at all to start using it and now it's my main drummer. I will probably not use AD again.
I still use Session Drummer however because I sampled my own drums and SD makes it easy to make a kit out of my own samples. I think Strike will do the same but haven't had time to dig that deep.

I have never had an issue with SD loading. I've had it on more than 2 dozen installs of Sonar.

    Hi all
Thanks for the feedback.   Im using the basic version of X3.   I think its called X3 Studio.    Its 32 bit.
I've got the dll in the correct folder and have tried re-scan.   And the path is correct in Plug In Manager.
I dont have an "install" for SD3.  There is just the SD folder which contains the dll file.  I always just copied this into the c:\program files\cakewalk etc etc        Sadly,  cakewalk dont support X3 Studio anymore so they are forcing me to pay more for a newer product.     I dont think SD3 came with Studio and i think i may have purchased it as an add on.   Which means an X3 reinstall wont help.     If I cant get it back I'll either look at upgrading my DAW or looking at other drum software.
Hi Cactus...thanks for the info on the drums.  Like you..I dont use loops.  I use piano roll view to create the beats using a trigger keyboard.     Thanks all.

There's an article about this in the Knowledge Base, Session Drummer 3 is not Being Recognized by SONAR X3. It's a case of missing Microsoft libraries upon which the plug-in depends, and the fix is simple...just follow the directions. Note that you need to download the update from Microsoft with SONAR closed.

There are still plenty of support documents for X3 posted on the Cakewalk site and of course, a search in this forum can often point you to the solution. I did a Google search on:

    Cakewalk SONAR X3 SD3

...and the above-mentioned doc was the topmost hit.

    Hi Anderton
Cheers bro...but sadly it that was an article I'd already read and tried.   I'd seen that tip in one of the other posts.   But thanks anyway.  Appreciate the tip.

Shucks. Oh well. In that case, I suggest re-installing it. I'm pretty sure SD3 came with X3 and I don't think it's always sufficient to just copy the DLL, you may need to actually install it so it can set file paths and such. Just do a custom install of X3 and choose to install only SD3.

The only issue I ever had with SD3 was actually with SD2, when I wanted to move over all the content from SD2 so I could stop using SD2 and have the content opened in 64-bit SD3 (been doing everything I can to have an all 64-bit system - it makes a huge difference). There were different file paths for the two of them so it was just a question of moving the SD2 stuff to the right place for SD3 to see it.

I'm pretty sure a re-install from the original X3 discs will do what you need.

Thanks bro..      Will give it a shot.   I've been using SD3 for a long time now and I do like it.    I'd love to get it back working.   I actually like the kits it comes with.   The Led Zep for example is really cool.

Yes, SD3 came with every version of X3 except LE (at least according to http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR%20X3&language=3&help=Comparison.html). I do not believe it was ever sold separately. SD2 was sold separately for a few years. Copying the SD3 data is not a complete installation. There are registry entries created by the install process used by the plug-in. An advanced install of X3 should get everything setup correctly.

thanks all.  Yes ,,,you were right.    SD3 is part of X3 and the install worked.   Thanks again guys.   I think Skook was right.     It was most likely SD2 that I bought as a seperate item.
