(Solved)merging/combining midi clips
Hi all I've been working on a project that has been built around a couple Beatscape loops. What I'd want to do now is convert the kick drum and snare to midi so I can edit in Addictive Drums. So, I've got as far as having both the kick and snare as midi clips but I want to combine them so that once I'm done editing I can copy the clip throughout the project as necessary. But even after following the instruction here http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation/default.aspx?Doc=SONAR%20X2&Lang=EN&Req=Arranging.33.html the clips are still separate. IE if I try to drag and copy only the clip on top moves. I can see the notes from both in the piano roll but the clips are not combined as I would have expected them top be. Am I missing something?

If you lasso the clips then both will be selected. Then you can just right click and select bounce to clips.

Select the clips and choose Clips > Bounce to Clips from the track view menu. You might have an empty lane to remove when you're done. And if they're groove clips, they'll be back to being normal clips and have to be grooved again, but it doesn't sound like they are.

I've got both clips sitting on the same track, one on top of the other.......is that where I'm going wrong?

OKay, I've just gone back and separated the clips onto two midi tracks, selected them, and chose Clips > Bounce to Clips (which is what I was doing before) and they're still on separate tracks. I've gotta head out for a while so I'll come back to this later. Thanks for the replies, hopefully I'll figure it out :-)

No, you want them in the same track. Did that not work somehow?

Just got back and had another try. This time I created a separate midi track, pasted both clips there and went through the same process and it worked. Really not sure what I was doing wrong before but at least I've got it working now. Thanks for the help! This community really is awesome! Cheers Mark

The same thing caused me frustration before someone on the forum told me to lasso them
