Some more good reading...

http://www.tfpro.com/masterclass.html

Ted Fletcher is an old-school engineer (the real kind) who designed the joemeek line of compressors (and more recently, the tfpro series). The above link takes you to a group of lecture synopses on recording. Although they are summaries that leave you wanting more detail, they all present a nice balance of theory, practical advice and historical perspective.

I stumbled onto this treasure while googling for information on mid-side compression. Mr. Fletcher, it turns out, was the fellow who invented the concept. (I'm still on the hunt for a definitive technical reference on the subject, so if you know of any let me know.)

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

These days, free falls right into my price range.

On the subject of free info, just in case you don't already know about Dave Moulton's articles (they've been discussed here in the past): http://www.moultonlabs.com/

More good free stuff: Harman International white papers.

And of course there's Ethan's stuff: Videos, and the famous AES audio myths talk

A free info list wouldn't be complete without the iZotope Mastering Guide.

Thanks Bit, I'll be sure to look those over too. My mind is like a sponge......a very small sponge that occasionally leaks.

Mucho tThanks for the tfpro link.  I've only gotten through one and a half of the tutorials so far, and they are excellent so far.  Also, +10 on the moultonlabs link.  I thanked you previously for pointing them out, but I don't mind doing it again.
