Some new "features" I could do without: Freezing & MIDI Selection Issues
Hello Good People, I've got two more anomalies in X1 which you may have faced yourselves: 1. With the transport module visible in the control bar, freezing soft synths takes an unreasonable amount of time. Hide the Transport module or the entire control bar prior to starting a freeze and a little pop up progress bar comes up for a few seconds and everything's ok!! Don't have a clue why this is happening but have submitted a problem card to Cakewalk. 2. When selecting events in the Piano Roll view, in particular with drum tracks, I often can't simply highlight a few notes without some extra notes I didn't select being included in the selection!! e.g. I'll highlight a number of hi hats notes only to find that a kick, a tom and a snare note within a measure of my choice has also been selected. This is certainly a "feature" I could do without! :) Has anyone had similar issues?

1) I have the transport module on the CB always. I have never had a problem with freezing synths slowly, but I will be glad to try that tonight and see if there's a difference in time with or without the transport module. 2) I haven't seen that either. are you sure it isn't because of the snap to grid?

Hi Beagle, Thanks for the reply! The freezing issue only popped up after the patch X1b, but also after I installed Komplete 7 from NI. However, it affects everything even when no Komplete Instrument is loaded up (e.g. with just Dimension Pro!). Without the transport module, anything including the NI stuff works fine, so I'm really at a loss trying to pinpoint the cause!! I reloaded x1 just in case, and it's still there! The Midi copying issue has been there for me since PE 8, so I was hoping that it would have been sorted out by X1b!! The Snap settings don't and probably shouldn't have an effect on this issue. It might be a graphics issue on my machine [....scratches head!!]

does it do the same thing on different softsynths? I don't have Komplete, but I do have Kontakt I can try that.

I very rarely freeze but did have a slow bounce cured by changing my BounceBufSizeMsec from 0 to 100. (Preferences->Audio->Config file Regarding the random note selection. I seem to remember a similar post a while ago where it was suggested that the "select controllers along with notes" option may have some bearing on that, but have no idea whether that was the reason or not. I personally don't get the problem but evidently others have.

Hi uche_eke, That first one happens to me also. It never did, now it always does. It's definetly a bug. I seem to recall that the position of the playbar in the blue screen would disappear when the progress bar used to show in the blue screen- now it stays and the bounce process is interminably slow. Like you, I hide the Control Bar with a simple "C" when I want to bounce to track. Edit: BTW X1 is on my Vista 32 bit computer, I'm pretty sure the problem began b4 x1b

Hey Beagle, Pretty much all of them. It all started when I did a project completely in NI instruments, this afternoon. I can't recall freezing tracks since I upgraded however, so I am unsure what's triggered the fault. However, even if NI triggered it, how does the presence of a unloaded soft synth on the harddrive cause it to act the same way for all other synths?? It's a little nuts!! :)

Thanks FastBikerBoy, I'll try to edit the Aud.ini file and see what happens. You might be right about the controllers also, I hadn't thought of that :)

Hey backwoods! Thanks for the reply! So I'm not the only one!! Do you have any NI soft synths too? It may be a combinatorial issue. I've posted a fault to Cakewalk Problem Reporter http://www.cakewalk.com/support/contact/problemreport.aspx Maybe if enough people find this fault the fix will be in the next QuickFix/Patch release :)

As FastBikerBoy pointed out, it appears to be an issue with the setting in the Aud.ini file Hope this helps :)

Thanks Uche, I had a look at that file when i first encountered the problem. I think my settings are what the file says they should be, but I will recheck when I get the chance. Somehow where the time/bar locator in the little neon blue screen would once turn off when the bounce is in progress, it now stays. I have never even waited to see if the bounce will ever complete- life's too short. CTRL-ALT-Delete stops Sonar clean at that point. Edit: I should reiterate bounce works fine when the control bar is not showing I'm going to try and do something I think is beyond me- I'm going to try and compile a proper bug report. It looks like a pretty tedious procedure though- may need a few beers to get motivated... Thanks for passing along what you have learnt Uche.
