Some notes not playing

I'm using a standard midi file and the SFZ synth with a soundfont. On playback, all the notes are not playing. What could be the problem?

Thanks

you need to tell us more about your system. What computer, what operating system, what sound card, and what version of Music Creator?

Using a factory card is not the best way to do this..... however, using MME drivers is usually the best option with factory cards.

However..... without knowing the details I would guess that you are using a built in ( factory sound card) for music playback.  Factory cards don't work well and as a result they can very often drop notes since all the data can not get through them in a timely manner. In an effort to keep the song in time..... it has to drop those notes or it will crash. Other symptoms include  clicks and pops in the music and tracks out of sync.

Getting an external interface that uses ASIO drivers will generally solve the issue once and for all.

It's an old Gateway laptop running Vista that I gave to a friend. When I had the machine I had no problems, but I was using Home Studio and not MC6.

    Thanks

I'm not familiar with HS. It is possible that it uses wave table synth, which I believe is the cheap synth built into the factory card. The new versions of MC over the past few years do not use wavetable..... they have soft synths which have better sounds but require much more processing power which the factory card can not handle well at all.  MC6 is a program that will always run better with a dedicated musical interface. The factory cards in laptops are not suitable for doing serious work with music. Especially if you are using MIDI. The processing for the midi to synth to audio is very heavy on the processor. A factory card can not handle that in real time.

If you run a few audio tracks, it will generally run fine on a lappy, but add midi and all that goes out the window. You can try using the MME driver mode and see how that works.

Some others may be along tomorrow and give you some things you can try.

When you install it, it should set up it's own folder.  If not, it's easy enough to create one, drag the synth DLL file there and let cake know through the PLug in Manager where it is.

Many of my synths and FX's are in a VST folder in Cakewalk.

But really, you could have folders anywhere on the computer as long as Cake knows where it is, everything is fine. I like to keep them in cake for convenience.

same with samples and patches. However, I like to have all my DAW software on the C drive so everything is on the main drive. All my libraries for samples are on a different drive since they are so freaking huge.
