Do you actually think he's gonna share that privileged information with us mere mortals?

He loves watching us "make it up" as we go along.

More amusing than midgets I suspect.

but if he "speaks of the pompatus of love" then I assumed I must have just missed it and was asking that he speak of it again!

    is it anything like Pomplamoose?

I wish I knew. As stated earlier, I'm "making it up" as I go along.

I watched a movie called "The Pompatus of Love" once.  Didn't really help much, though.

I guess Maurice didn't 'splain it to them before they made the movie.

I actually remember reading a rather thorough account of this some time ago (my head is seemingly full of mostly useless information).

    Off to Google!

[EDIT: I seem to remember a different one with more from Miller himself, but: http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/972/in-steve-millers-the-joker-what-is-the-pompatus-of-love]

    [ANOTHER EDIT: Miller's claim -

"Things happen when you're writing songs. The line about the Pompatus was something I tossed off, goofing around," and "Pompatus is a made-up word -- it sounds really grand, and like it might have something to do with hair," he says -  http://www.nypost.com/p/entertainment/music/it_still_miller_time_uK5nB7O0kBbCQAqSDergOM  ]

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.
