Jarsve So what's your hobby?
I like to dress up like a clown and... Seriously? I play a lot of discgolf in the summer. Training, competitions and just some rounds with friends. Haven't been in US yet though, I've heard 90% of all discgolf courses lies there. Other than that it's mostly about music.

I've always been someone that likes fixing things, making things and crafts. As an English teacher to young learners, when I'm not learning instruments I like coming up with different activities, to overcome grammar obstacles. Teaching vocab is pretty easy for me now, I feel I have a range of activities that keep the kids interested and maximise participation. The challenge is to have as many children involved as possible. Often in teaching a class we break the class into teams, but many times this results in in one person from each team actively involved. With little ones this results in the others loosing attention, and the noise level rising. I still use these activities, but sparingly. My class sizes at my new school are the biggest I've taught, 32 per class. I've found breaking them into 8 groups of four, and having at least two at a time, and having stronger and weaker students in each group, enables the group to run itself, with the stronger students there to help facilitate this. I can then find the weakest group and focus on getting them to function, before moving through all the groups. I'm so happy when I can just stand back and see a whole class engaged, with 50% of the students talking, and the rotation through the students is quick enough to keep attention spans. I've been teaching for nearly four years now, and long ago I realised that knocking something together for one lesson is a waste of time. So when I make something, I make it well. I have taught across a variety of text books, so I know the vocab and grammar obstacles they face and to teach, and what all the books miss that will be in their tests (such as lime). The students seems to appreciate when something is 'nice' and treat it well, so thy survive being handled by hundreds of 5-8 year olds. Colour printing is a little more costly, but when you know it's not just for one lesson, that cost dissipates. Kids seem to enjoy random, not knowing whats coming next, and in many ways this forms the backbone of my approach to engaging activities. I now have around 3000 mini vocab cards, in sets of 16. I've come up with a way to to create dice that are strong enough and indestructible to 5 year olds, but won't hurt when they accidentally bounce of a head (I use these for more than just numbers, with emoticons on each face to discuss feeling, or ticks and crosses to indicate positive and negative answers, which can then be combined with other dice or vocab cards), spinners, magnetic fishing rods. Along with my massive colouring pencil set, variety of balls, fly swatters, I doubt there is another teacher as well resourced as I am teaching ESL. I still feel I am becoming stale, so I am constantly looking into new ideas and working on new projects. Even tough it's my job, someone once said of me, that they never saw me any happier than when I was making something. So it stills feels like a hobby to me when I am working on something for class.

I'll exclude creative stuff. I do a lot of writing and recently got into video editing but they are all part of the business so I don't consider that a hobby. I'm a student of Kung Fu. Tai Chi, Bagua, Tsing Yi and Qigong, Wudang weapons forms and most recently Shaolin. I do a lot of gaming as well. #pcmasterrace Use to play Magic: The Gathering but gave that up since our 4th player moved. We play a bit of D&D now as well.

Because he's not an English teacher, and he's Norwegian! (it's 'with', not 'wit' and you need a question mark at the end of the sentence )

Hobbies.... I've collected them through the years. Aside from music, which is a hobby for me now.... I used to make my living in it.... but now, not so much. It's currently relegated to hobby status. I like guns.... and have quite a few nice ones. I love all things shooting. Rifles, pistols, and shotguns.... love them all. I inherited a nice Browning Belgium A5 which turns heads at shooting events when I bring it to the line. There's always someone there who offers to buy it from me and I always smile and tell them "Thank you kindly, however, No thanks... it has sentimental value beyond it's dollar value and I'm keeping it in the family". I studied martial arts for many years and one of the interesting aspects of our art was the use and training in weapons, specifically, the Japanese Katana. I can't afford any of the "real/authentic" Japanese swords so I have a replica blade that was actually a gift given to me by a friend. I had some collectors look at it and they said it was a nicely made replica.... not of old Japanese origin. You wouldn't want to use it in a sword fight. Photography, motorcycles, flight simulators (as Randy mentioned, but not to the degree he's into), flying real planes with a PP license (talk about an expensive hobby...OMG!!!) , working on restoring wooden furniture from time to time, and now.... probably the most expensive one of all... A hobby farm. We're planning goats, honey bees, and a large garden. I've got a small tractor that runs and I'll be restoring to it's former glory when I get the time.
And of course... I'm very careful not to call this a hobby within earshot of my K-9 team commander....( I only made that mistake one time)..... but I'm also training my German Shepard in the fine art and skill of human remains detection. or as it is commonly called.... a Cadaver Dog. We're part of a search team that assists law enforcement and government in searches for living and deceased people when they go missing, a crime is suspected of having been committed regarding a missing person, or after a disaster such as flood, earthquake or hurricane/tornado damage to buildings that may have had people in them. That's some interesting and fascinating work. So much to learn on so many different levels from scent theory on how scent behaves under various field conditions (hot, cold, new, old, wet, dry, calm, windy, terrain, etc...) , woodcraft and wilderness survival, urban search conditions, man tracking, compass navigation, and of course, how dogs think and react and learning how to read the dog's body language to determine what the dog is trying to tell me. It's fun, and we have a great team of like minded volunteers.
Needless to say, I can easily stay busy with those things.

When I first came to Asia and was traveling, I came with a mirror-less camera with two prime lenses. I really got into the composition, and playing with aperture and exposure. I felt very connected to my camera and taking pictures felt intuitive. After 18 months of teaching I traveled again, but I felt a disconnect with the camera after time off. My camera has a touch screen issue I need fixing. I'd like to become fluid with it again. I love the digital option, it really helps with the learning curve to see the results, try again, just dumping what hasn't worked. Gone are the days of getting films back from boots he chemist that are all black.

This thread has convinced me that I need a hobby. Running through the list of past hobbies (electronic design, automotive tinkering, carpentry, hiking, rock collecting/gold panning, boating/crabbing) none of them appeal to me today. They all take too much time, too much space, or too much money. I'm open to suggestions.

Good one, Greg. Unfortunately, I crossed that one off my list of possible hobbies this morning after a fast and furious game of whack-a-mole with a spammer. I'd delete one and before I could refresh the list there'd be 3 more. Now, if there was some way to physically knock on their door and tell their Mom to make them stop, that could be entertaining.
