About typical for the times... I find it ironic that there happened to be an ad for Pandora on that same page.

I got an email from the CEO of Pandora a couple weeks ago asking me to sign a petition about this. What Pandora is fighting is the fact that they have to pay a lot more in royalties than over the air radio. So why are they the bad guy ... how about we start making over the air radio pay the same as over the internet radio providers?

I was speaking to a guy in the biz.... runs a studio full time doing commercials (video & audio) for radio and TV and other such things..... he told me just the other day that he used to be able to ask and get $10k for a certain sized project and now, he's lucky to get $2k to $5k for the same sized project.... then he added "if that much". rates are down all over the place and that goes for musicians at the bottom of the market especially. Publishers will make theirs ..... of that you can be sure, as will the big players like Pandora. They are adding ads and all sorts of income producing things. I've noticed the ads all over what used to be free Pandora radio on the internet.

I do occassionally listen to Pandora and for the most part it has been a enlightening and worthwhile experience for me. I have discovered new artists and from those discoveries, have purchased their CD's. So I feel Pandora has done a great service to these artists from my perspective. It is very likely I may have never heard anything from some of these lesser known artists without Pandora playing their music. In some ways, I could almost see this being a royalty free service where the artist's payback is actually the promotion they get on Pandora. The other issue regarding a law banning collective bargaining by the artists... well hopefully this gets shot-down fast.
