Someday I Will Love Again . Mix # 3
Hello Forum , This is my current Mix as of 1 / 21 / 2016 ...let me know what you think . Someday I Will Love Again https://soundcloud.com/gu...eday-i-will-love-again This whole project so far was done in SONAR Splat using only the Stock VST plugs that came with the program . On this song I play Acoustic Guitar , Mandolin , Guitalele, 6 string , 7 string electric guitar, and electric 4 string Bass Guitar. (for the analog side of things .) All the synth parts and keyboard parts were performed VAI my guitar triggering a Plug called Midi Guitar by Jam Origin ... I'm still working on the tune ...this is what I have so far ... I sure hope somebody enjoys it . thank you , Kenny

Well, your definitely not new to playing guitar! Job well done! I couldn't help but grab my guitar halfway through the song. Your jamming made me want to start jamming! I hope you post the final product, there is so much potential in this landscape! I'd love to hear how it turns out. Thanks for sharing!

What a lovely tune Kenny. Very pretty and melancholy, with a little Celtic feel. Haven't heard you play anything quite like that before, really enjoyed it. I had a guitar strapped on, so played along too.

Hi Grizzylip , I'm happy the potential of this song can be heard and recognized by you .My short term plan is to keep working on this song with the intention of doing my absolute best to create a song that people would enjoy listening to repeatedly . Yes, it may be true that I'm not new to playing the guitar . I've been playing guitar 50 years + . The thing that blows my head the most is every time I pick up a guitar to play I learn something new . It happens every time . I'm pleased that something I played made you want to start jamming. It means that I'm finally doing something right . Thank you for giving my song a listen jamesg1213 What a lovely tune Kenny. Very pretty and melancholy, with a little Celtic feel. Haven't heard you play anything quite like that before, really enjoyed it. I had a guitar strapped on, so played along too.
Thank You very much James . I certainly appreciate the kind words coming from you I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Traditional Celtic Music . It is in my blood from my fathers side of my family . The only reason (why )I have a mandolin in the first place is because I would love to learn how to play some of that music . ( wink ) Hey James , Say , if you want , the song available as a download (for now since brundlefly is helping me map it for tempo )the only difference between my SONAR project and the Soundcloud file is I added some space on the SC ..the SONAR starts on the first down beat ...I would be more than willing and happy to consider any guitar parts from you Yeah if you happen to have the time and the desire I will add you to the project if it's gonna help my song ... dcumpian Sounds great Kenny. No comments till it's done... Regards, Dan
Hi Dan , Thank you for giving my song a listen and taking the high road what I have up now on S C is pretty much a work file / headphone mix . I'm sorry to hear about your dad . I did listen to your song and I will go over to your thread and comment proper . all the best , Kenny

@jude77 , Thank you for the kind words about my song I have put a lot into the song so far and I feel there is still a ways too go . Yes, I happen to like the Medieval description ...Let's see , if the shoe fits ... I got real long hair , a mid length beard , I got a sword , I used to ride a horse just about every other day , and when I make some serious money I want to own and live in a Castle w a draw bridge and a moat ... ....Yep ...I'm more than OK with Medieval ... thank you for that .. it is my desire to stick with this song and post a finished version that will hopefully satisfy .... LarryAlex Very nice, Mister Kenny. I heard an Irish-like influence in your 3/4 piece. You need to put something in the middle that contrasts with the rest of it, like a bridge in the relative minor mode maybe. Just take the bridge down a minor third and then return to the original key, otherwise what you have now is a tad repetitive. All music needs variety in its chordal progressions, as you know. Keep up the good work. Best, Larry Alexander
Hello Larry , I gave you 3 of them fellas because I respect where you are coming from and I know you know your stuff For me to do what you are suggesting would involve a tremendous amount of work ...all my tracks are audio when I play my synth parts I play them in real time as the song is playing .... I do happen to think that you are giving me solid advice and I am willing to take it ....lets see how the song develops ....at the very least I may decide to cut this down to the most essential musical motifs and use them as smaller parts within a song that is much greater as a whole ....thank you Larry Mesh Yes, very nice Kenny and it really did give a folk/Celtic/Irish theme.........nice composition and looking forward to the completed project. One thing for sure is you're inspiring me to use more & more of Midi guitar.
Hi Mesh , I'm grateful to hear that something musical I may have played would have you interested in playing more Midi Guitar In some circles guitar players can be the brunt of a lot of jokes , but I can tell you for a fact that guitar players can come up with some really cool ways of creating new expressive music ... Many years ago I was hanging out with a well know sax player David S....we were casual friends at the time . I asked him how he came up with some of his lines .David told me he copied the way guitar players played when they played lead guitar solos No Lie .... I have been putting in some more time with this song ...I do hope I can bring it to the next level ... My intention is to post a finished song project when I get her there ... thank you all .. Kenny

Hey Wookiee , it's a good thing you have the mini wookiee guarding your keyboard ...you don't know how many times I've listened to you music and caught a severe case of synth induced GAS ... As far as the tune goes , I've been been working on it ...it is coming along ..thanks for the listen James , it's all good ....we will do something together again in the future Rimshot Good start Kenny! Like the mood. I can hear some clicks like at .02 and .47. Don't know if that's your fingers or something on the acoustic. It comes from the right speaker just so you know.
Hi Rimshot, Thanks for pointing that out . The click at .02 is the nail on my pinky hitting the pickguard .The one at .47 is my hand slapping the soundboard to dampen something ... . 02 I'm stuck with it for now ...the one at .47 i was able to slip edit out ...Anyway there is a lot of stuff like that going on in my performance , I used a condenser mic in an untreated room ( my old apt ) I'm running with what I have for now since there is not much I can do other than rerecord the whole acoustic guitar part in an acoustically treated space like a real studio or a sound stage at a hall ... It is what it is , and it is a start ...thanks for the listen . daryl1968

very pleasant, soothing, and calming. Probably more pleasant, soothing, and calming than the Medieval Era itself. Reminded me a little of something Pat Metheny's group might jam on. If you are open to mix ideas, I wonder if you could do something a little deeper with the bass guitar, cut away some of the roundwoundish upper mids? It might help the other instruments come forward. I'll check out you piece when it is done for sure! cheers, -Tom

Hello Tom , Yes , I'm certainly open to mix suggestions The tune that has been posted on S C is just a headphone mix I did the same night I tracked my Bass parts. I would have never of posted my song this early in it's development except for the reason that I had asked for help upstairs ... The current state of the song at home has something along the lines of what you have suggested ... I gave and shifted the whole sound of the bass to a much lower end frequency responses spectrum of the sound . Still currently working on the song ...it is coming along .What I have now sounds better to me...it still needs a little more TLC ...Wait I mean a lot more I'm actually very tempted to upgrade from the free Soundcloud I have now to a version of SC where I can upload a new mix w out loosing the likes and listens my tune has gotten so far ... thank you for commenting I really appreciate that you did Kenny

Hello michaelhanson , Thank You , I appreciate what you said about my guitar playing and song The Jam Origin Midi Guitar is what I'm using as my Midi Guitar interface .... This plug is absolutely incredible Lets me use any guitar I want to play and it tracks fantastic . Jam Origin just updated the software to a beta version that literally blows the doors off the version of Midi Guitar that i used to record the synth parts in my song ... I'm very optimistic that I will be finally taking some of my music to the next level w Midi Guitar ... Give the demo as shot if you get the chance , all the best , Kenny

Nice work. good playing and a nice mood in this piece. Only comment I will give is that it's a too much noise on the acoustic guitartrack. Maybe it's recorded with too low signal?

Hello Alan , Thank you for the listen and commenting At 1:06 , could that be the placeholder synth string part you heard that you didn't care for ? Freddy J Excellent playing and nice number Kenny. I too like that Celtic feel to this number. There are a lot of instrumentation/sounds going on in this number but you have got good separation on all of it and it all works.
Thank You for the song listen and kind words Freddy J There seems to be good potential here ...Yes I did the best I could with my playing ...still need to dial this song in .. RogerH Nice work. good playing and a nice mood in this piece. Only comment I will give is that it's a too much noise on the acoustic guitartrack. Maybe it's recorded with too low signal?
Thank You Roger Yeah there's noises here ...the acoustic was done in a very lively room in my old apt using an AKG condenser Mic that in itself contributes , also in a couple of places in the song ( current mix up ) a couple of synth patches also have noises ...I used hardware and I'm seriously considering doing a few things to rectify a few of these problems .... The good news is ...the feel of the composition has a good mood and vibe .. If at first , if I don't succeed I may have to keep at it until I do succeed .... thank you for your honesty. all the best , Kenny

I just put up a new mix of my tune. Someday I Will Love Again https://soundcloud.com/gu...eday-i-will-love-again A few things I changed in this mix ...I added some new parts w a few acoustic instruments I played Tightened up the Bass , added a few Guitalele parts w a mic , added some melody support VIA a Parlor guitar w a mic , pulled out some of the hiss on the main acoustic ....also dialed in a bunch of stuff too much to list .... there may be more to be done ....I still want to clean up some stray noises from a couple of hardware issues I had .. anyway I hope you dig the improvements I did , Kenny

Hi Kenny! Since this is a new mix, I thought I'd give you my thoughts on that: - The noise on the acoustic is a bit of a problem, IMO. Such a pretty part really should be more pristine.
- The bass sounds a little midrangey (is that even a word?) to my ears.
- Other instrumentation sounds great and you've used the soundstage very well.

dcumpian Hi Kenny! Since this is a new mix, I thought I'd give you my thoughts on that:
- The noise on the acoustic is a bit of a problem, IMO. Such a pretty part really should be more pristine.
- The bass sounds a little midrangey (is that even a word?) to my ears.
- Other instrumentation sounds great and you've used the soundstage very well.
Just my thoughts... Regards, Dan
Hello Dan , Thank you for taking the time to be honest with me ... I may have to scrap the acoustic track and rerecord it in an environment where I can capture it correctly .... The Bass tone is what I would call a Woody Tone and I was actually going for that ... For me to fix that is not a big deal .On the new mix I had the tone you didn't care for up loud and a Bass tone of the same exact track duplicated mixed w a much lower frequency response underneath it ... To fix that all I would have to do is lower the Woody Tone Bass and bring up the other Bass part .... Yes the other instruments are a nice touch ...they are playing parts I have played on my solo acoustic .. I almost wonder if I should just go to a different place entirely with the acoustic guitar and give it a more supportive role in places .... all the best , Kenny

Kenny, this is the first song I have heard by you. I love all the different instruments. I especially like the chord progressions on the acoustic. Any chance you could share that? It kind of has a courtly feel. I imagine a passel of young nubiles dancing before the Prince. The use of the guitar synth is nice too. It shows what can be done with that plug. Nice Kenny Jesse Q. Jesse thank you for the listen Let me get back to you on the chord progression ...I'm a little crisp around the edges since I spent the last untold number of hours fixing the noise problems on the original guitar part .... It may be pretty easy for you to hear what I'm doing now on the guitar.....it is all diatonic in the key of G major .... Anyway I Just posted a new mix where the guitar is real upfront . I did my best to implement the suggestions I have been given along the way with this song from those who were inclined to give feedback........my tune may still need a lot more work so keep them suggestions coming tune is on the same link ''' https://soundcloud.com/guitarist-kenny-wilson/someday-i-will-love-again thanks all , Kenny
