Somethin Just Aint Right

I hope this title doesn't open my to excessive critisim

The lead vocal was recorded with the new mic (MikTek C7), the harmonies were with my previous condenser.

Enjoy  (I hope) - Daryl

Somethin' Just Ain't Right - Daryl Crowley 2012

He said he had a deal for me that I just couldn’t pass

Inside information he could turn into cash

If I’d give him some money.         If I’d give him some time.

He said: he could make it happen once the papers were signed.

Who do you think you are – you’re actin’ so cool?

Do you think that I’m crazy?  Do you think I’m a fool?

I may not seem too bright  - but somethin’ just ain’t right
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don’t misunderstand me.  He said nothin’s guaranteed

That anything can happen is a point I must concede

But this is just about as sure as anything can be

I stared at him in disbelief.   Are you talkin’ to me?

Do you know who  - you’re talkin’ to?

You’d call me suspicious if you only knew

At first I thought I might   but somethin’ just ain’t right.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chorus:

It seems pretty strange that somethin’ in the air.

I’ve felt it before but I can’t remember where

Walk away -Run Away - into the night -   Somethin' just ain’t right.

He said you’ve got me wrong my friend.  I’m lookin’ out for you

Lots of people want this deal.   So whatcha gonna do?

I said:  You can take your snake oil   and take your tonic too.

Take a hike cause I’ve just had all  I can take from you.

Like a scream in the night,  somethin’ just ain’t right

Very tasty song, guitar, vocals, and mix.  I can relate to this story so well.  You not only wrote a good song, but performed a public service.

" The lead vocal was recorded with the new mic (MikTek C7), the harmonies were with my previous condenser. " I had a condenser? But it kept shorting out my pre-amp! (the condensation?)

This sounds "really" good on my laptop. Nice recording, and the guitars are smoooooth... This one is you at your best, really a great job!

It gives me an ARS vibe? (which is a good thing!)

    Hi Daryl,

I'm at work listening on cheap headphones and this sounds great! Nice interplay between the different guitar parts.

Your vocal and harmonies are outstanding as is the whole mix. Excellent.

    Hi, Daryl,

This is really dynamite, smooth blues at it's best!

Perfect clean guitar tones and great playing, excellent vocals and harmonies, and the new mic sounds fantastic.  The mix is clean, wide and very pro sounding.

I agree with Robby about it having a nice Atlanta Rhythm Section vibe, that I really like.

Nice work, buddy, really good stuff!

This sounds very much like the Atlanta Rythym Section, (Witchy Woman) Daryl (compliment).

Love the guitar solos on this and your lead vox. plus subtle BGV's. Always liked this sort of vibe.

    Really well done IMO!!

I probably listen to more of your music than most people (good background while I'm working).  Your voice is really different in this one.  I can't believe that it is just the microphone.  Not meaning this to be an obsequious compliment, but your voice sounds much younger in this one.  It is cleaner and the higher frequency components are there.  If it is the mike you got yourself a winner here (or was it just a real good day to do vocals).

    Re:Somethin Just Aint Right 2012/01/20 18:57:35 (permalink)
Gee, I was wondering if I wanted to tweak the mix some more, but maybe I need to leave it alone

To answer a few of the questions above.  My amp is my Carr Mercury through my home built isolation box with the same speaker as in the Carr itself, the cab mic is Sennheiser e-906.

This song is keyed just about as high as I can power a tune these days.  I tend to sing better in the higher ranges but it's much more difficult for me than it was in the days when I was on the road.

Which leads into a couple of the other questions about the Eagles influence.  My last union club road tour our band played EVERYTHING by the Eagles, we could have dona whole night of the Eagles.  In those days I sang a lot of high harmonies.  Dangerous notes that would kill me now if I even tried them.

The mic is very nice, it seems to have that silky tone, although it's subtle.  I think what is starting to help me the most is that I'm doing it a lot more... that darn practice thing.

Thanks for the kind comments all.  It's great encouragement, although even if everyone hated it, I would still do it because it's just so satisfying... and I'm sure you know what I mean.
