Re: Something I Hadn't Considered About SONAR's Future 2018/01/09 00:45:06 (permalink)
I'm hoping all will continue well for some time, although I have now disabled all win10 updates on my system. While I do still go online, I want my DAW to continue for at least the next 12-24months, which is the time frame for most of my projects. If SONAR breaks, then I will consider other options, but not before. I don't have the luxury of extra time to spend learning another DAW right now.

But with Noel's posts this last week, and earlier posts suggesting some support will continue, in one form or another, I'm not really worried. Because we actually do get some help here, and I don't think we will be left in a mess.

The following transcript is from an Adobe forum, and the response from an Adobe staff member. It relates to Photoshop elements 12, on sale only a few short years ago. I was trying to find out how to get my version working again, when I came across this....

Your PSE12 is too old for Windows 10 and is not supported by Adobe anymore.  Also, Adobe doesn't give its software away.   Maybe you can find another website or company to mooch free software from.   I can say that to you after this entire forum has harassed me repeatedly.   As Photoshop users. our tech are not getting paid for this support and especially with all of your harassing for free software.

Your PSE12 can be fixed by uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling.  If it doesn't work once, try it twice or 3 times.  it worked for another guy here:

This forum is no longer being supported.  Also, it is NOT your chat room.  If you wish to chat, find a chat room on AOL, Bing, Yahoo, Twitter, or chat with yourself in a room alone maybe.  We won't help you further here.    You have warn out your welcome at Adobe by harassment and repeated requests for free software.

The staff member in question was no doubt feeling harassed. I don't think his response was appropriate, however what I got from this was, we DON'T get this response, which is the only point I am trying to make.

I'm not trying to live in the past, but I certainly am not prepared to write off the future just yet.

Now, my new Fender Deluxe Active Precision Special Bass, (which has a 'passive mode' switch as well for recording), has just arrived and I must go pick it up

All the best to you all..

Craig, what is going to be your workaround for the midi event page? A very close friend and colleague is the Asian representative for Presonus and he stayed with me a couple of days in December --  and as we were setting up my new Studio 1 Pro, Studio 192, and DP88 I asked him about the midi event page and he said that the way Studio 1 is dealing with midi is the way of the future (sample recognition for every event.) They have no plans for a midi event page.I am good at math and my brain works better with numbers. I can look at a midi event )let's say a rhodes performance, and tell just how far it is off. With piano roll, staff view, I have never been able to do that. Would love it if something could be done.

I don't use it very much, so personally I don't find its loss problematic. But I understand some people can relate to that best. I don't know what PreSonus is planning to do about it.

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!
