Something Is Hot-up tempo Chiyoko

Somebody said they would be interested in hearing Chiyoko (Leave It Up To You singer) do something uptempo. Here's one for you. Lot going on, but it's kind of fun-some really nice guitar rhythms for you guitarists-keyboard and drum work/vocal arrangement by yours truly. Wrote this some time back but something still kind of fresh about it-I'm not ashamed of it at least.

Chaz's staff is always rockin'! Or... at least for his sake... I hope it gets rocked once in a while! (the emoticon means I'm kidding, Chaz... kinda)
A very different style from what I've heard of your work, Michael. Great production, but...
I think the groove could be tightened up. The main beat has a nice swing to it, while some of the percussion and rythme instruments seem to be more straight feeling. The big tom fill at 2:27 exposes the problem quite well... flamming in the feel. Be sure you lock all of the song elements into the same percentage of "swing".
But(of course), I'm being very picky. I'm just kind of obsessed with "The Groove". Once again...slick production, homeboy...you rock!!!

The best is always yet to come. Now...shut up and make some noise!

    Hey Michael,
Fun song, cool groove. She has a great voice. I loved the funky little guitar riffs. Perfect production as usual.

Now I'm curious. I assumed it was intentional because I hear different instruments go in and out of the swing rhythm, including guitar (which wasn't sequenced). Anyway, it doesn't bother me. But, then again, I'm not a drummer, and I have a little quirkiness in me - I just don't let it out in public very often!

I like this vocal sound a lot better than the way she sounded on Inside. Sounds excellent! Did I hear you say you generally use a 414 (original presumably?) for vocals? Well, whatever it is, it sounds great.

    Nice tune, Michael.

Move the tables and chairs, dance party time!

Hey, you know I really like how it moves in and out of swing, as long as there's solid back beat, whatever happens in between is fair game. Sounds perfectly natural to me. In fact, those hippy hop pop numbers that stay stuck in swing just sound contrite to me. But I digress.

Nice production. The guitar fills are probably at the right level, but I'd like to hear it more, sure is sweet. I'm using headphones now, but is it a little tubby in the 100Hz-200Hz zone?

The song seems to have the life sucked out of it. For me it felt as if the performances were detached. Even the ad lib parts towards the end seems programmed. I dunno maybe I've just heard this song too many times on the radio already. Superb production though.

I know exactly what you mean kiwi. This production was done at a time when that was the in thing. I played the different parts to fit the holes-it wasn't a long inspired take. So you pegged it. It was meant to make you move, not move you. Very different from what I normally do (I hope), but I wanted to show some young cats how to make a clean busy song. This is many years ago.

The song probably will go over well on the radio and sometimes this is the intention. The song certainly is clean.

This song absolutely rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My whole staff was dancing around the room. You should re-do this one in todays style. This was probably about 10 years ago it seems-unless you are 10 years behind.

    Mike,

If you really want me to listen to your songs ya gotta tell your boy that you got ice cream and candy waitin' inside. I ain't heard one note yet, even though I've played it five times. My head's still bouncin' around on the floor like one of those super-balls and I'm prayin' the other two don't fall off. Heck! My ma's comin' down to bring me my medicine.

Let me try to explain, I'm one of those split personallity guys. I just got enough of a break to type this note, but the other 67 people in the broken brain of mine are still bouncing around like an exploded atom.

Oh Oh, here comes mom and my sister... "What ever you two do, don't you dare look at that computer screen."

"Oh no, MOM, MOMMY, COME BACK, YA STILL GOT MY MEDICENE. LOOK OUT FOR THAT SPACE SHUTTLE".

Okay Mike, I'm all calmed down now. They got me in one of those straight jacket thingies and hit me in the head with a B52. They just played your song thinking it would put me out for good.

They look pretty confused. I wish I could help out. Oh Oh here comes the presedent and he's got a tank... on. Been drinkin' and drivin' again. Hey guys here comes his wife! Comon you little Hillary and shake your boody down.

Very Fun. Vocals are mixed close to perfection for a pop song, Michael. Sounds a bit like a late 80's synth pop tune you'd hear today on the non classic-rock stations.

Good use of the stereo field, too. Very full...

    Thanks
