Something equivalent to Audiosuite's Gain

Hi All. Does Sonar 8.5 have a plugin that's similar to audiosuite's Gain? If not, can someone recommend something? Thanks.

What exactly does Audiosuite's Gain do? I'm not familiar with it.

Say you have a lead vocal and the end of a phrase has an rms of -15, and the beginning has an rms of -19. The plugin first is able to find the rms of these parts, and then allows you to adjust the lower parts. Thanks Kev.

I don't think there is an equivalent, certainly not one bundled with SONAR. In fact, I don't know of any offline plugins in the SONAR universe. I use Adobe Audition when I have to do anything that precise. Most of the time, though, volume automation or Process -> Audio -> Gain works fine for me.

Sounds like a useful plug-in. The closest to it I can think of would be a compressor, where you can reduce the gain above a certain threshold and increase the overall gain.

Boy , if you find it let me know because there's been a few times I could have used it. I just end up manually editing with tooling it over to Wave Lab. Sonars gain turns all mono tracks into stereo, And there is no analyzing of RMS so it's a wild guess. It's a mystery to me why such a simple feature as gain is so poorly done in Sonar.
You should be able to highlight the part, down to a microscopic level, right click and apply the amount.

Wouldn't it be a great feature if you could highlight a section of audio, right-click on it and select "calculate average RMS"?

I started playing with Process -> Audio -> Gain today. I was still stumped with how to get the average rms of a piece of audio, but it looks like bitflipper has offered up an idea... At least I hope he has.. :)

You can change the Record and Track Meters to show Peak + RMS or only RMS if that will help.

Thanks Chappel, I knew about that. I'm looking for something that will tell me the average RMS on a portion of audio, and then let me process a weaker spot of audio to that level.

Yeh, there is an RMS metering option, which is great but it's showing you the RMS values for 50 millisecond intervals. What we sometimes want to know is "what is the average RMS over the course of this two-second vocal harmony?". There has never been, AFAIK, a tool for that in SONAR.

Another plugin that would be cool: an RMS level-matching gain rider that would take another track as a sidechain input and track its level. With a maximum-gain setting, attack and release times, and an offset value you could work up close barbershop harmonies that sounded like the Beach Boys around one omni mic. Don't bother looking for this plugin, as it does not yet exist.
