Something positive - Lyrics were fixed in X1
I hadn't tested lyrics in X1 until today. I was happy to see that a long-standing bug was fixed. Sonar 8 was the last version where Lyrics worked correctly in the Staff View. You chose the Lyric tool, clicked under the first note of a melody, and you started typing. It was a breeze to insert your lyrics wedded to the notes. But with 8.3, then continuing with 8.5, a bug had crept in. After typing your first word or syllable, when you went on to the next note, an extra note would be inserted, and you'd have to un-do. The only way to finish your lyrics was to click a note, type your syllable or word, then stop, click in a blank space, backing out of typing of lyrics. Then you'd choose the next note, type the next bit-then stop again--and so forth. It was painful. In X1 it again works the way it should, and you can quickly type in your lyrics without typing. --now, getting Out of Lyrics and back to notes is iffy. I don't understand how we're supposed to be doing that smoothly. But at least the lyrics work! Randy B.

It does close the little window with the last lyric in it, finishing the lyric writing task, but it doesn't return me to working with notes. The lyric strip remains highlighted, with the rest of the view dimmer. Using the mouse to click Lyrics does turn it off, logically enough. I wish a mouse move wasn't required. Since you know every version of Sonar inside and out so extremely well, I imagine you're happy to see that the Lyric bug which has lingered for several versions now has finally been fixed! Thanks again. Randy B.

Hey Randy, Yeah, I see what you mean... it doesn't turn off the Lyrics button, but you can still click and add/edit notes with the mouse after you press enter. Must be a bug. Also, you can add your own key binding to Lyric mode... just look for Lyric Mode in the Staff View key bindings Bind Context. Scott -- Scott R. The best part, as per the subject line of this thread, is that the long-standing lyric bug in Sonar is gone. No more inserting of random notes while trying to type lyrics. Very glad this was taken care of. Randy B.

The extra notes seem to get added when you switch between Lyric and Staff views. It may also have something to do with copy/paste of clips w/ lyrics

Add lyrics to a MIDI clip, then split it in two. Both halves of the clips will have doubled notes and garbled lyrics

They still haven't fixed this after 5(?) versions? They keep adding new Vintage Tube Warmth FET Controlled Limiting Filter ™ plugins but basic functionality goes unfixed.

I've seem midi file with lyrics embedded that won't work if it's on a track without any notes.
