Sometimes - Cover by Nicole Mullen ROCK N ROLL!!!

The Story - I am leading Worship Band this week and wanted to make sure I can play this song so I can teach it .. my wife is going to sing it and keep the singers in line

So I played guitar - my wife sang -- in one take

Then I overdubbed bass - one take

Drums - I think 3 or four takes ...

Mixed it in Literally 20 minutes ... I think the whole thing was something like 45 minutes to an hour to practice - record - then mix

had a good time rehearsing with my wife

We should be able to teach the rest of the singers and band the song fairly quickly without a long ass rehearsal

There you have it ... enjoy! https://soundcloud.com/mooch4056/sometimes

Its not perfect but it was fun

(wait until you all hear my "cd" in a few months) .. it has "real drums" it -- as well as the usually superior and BFD stuff

(slapping own ass) woooooo whoooooooooo! yeah baby yeah!

EDIT - just switched ride sound to a high hat .. It was bugging me

Mooch4056, Well, giving praise to the Lord is a wonderful thing. But, we must also not get to boastful in our endeavors. I would like you to compare your recording to this one http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10035618
and see what I am talking about. You have much fine tuning to work on before you might think about teaching. We can all us a bit of work on our techniques and slowly come to the wisdom and knowledge of what we should be doing. I hope you will continue to work on this piece and fine tune it so when you present it to your congregation they will appreciate all of your efforts.

Peace be with you. Blessings, John

Dude ... I just had fun recording with my wife that's all ... And I know the song well enough for a rehearsal ... I wasn't trying to be pro

I have a masters degree in education it's what I do for a living....

That's it ... Just had fun kicking this around last night ... I am not even a guitar player by trade I play sax ... Or bass ...just sharing that I had fun last night making a little music with my wife ... Did you even read what I wrote?

Just wanted to make sure I knew the songsince I am leading this weekend ... We have had leaders pick new songs and they didn't know it themselves ... Our guitar player is much better than I he will be fine

I was sharing in some fun I had ....

For crying out loud ... I've done good pro recordings before .. I've played in tons of bands I be rehearsed tons of bands and have been a school band director since 1997

I now remember why I generally stay away from the song forum

Never mind

Dear Christian Sir...

Do you think If I handed the band and choir sheet music and played this version of the same song for them.... I will be prepared well enough to teach it to them up to your high and mighty Holy Standards ?

Golly I hope so! Otherwise I would be lost in telling them what to play!

I feel so blessed that you're in my life and have set me straight. Praise the Lord Brother. AMEN!!!

* Note to self ... only post completed songs that are at Johns Professional Level of mixing and mastering. Never post things such as rehearsal that were just for fun and never ever brag on yourself when posting songs in the song forum only praise God and Others in the song forum.

Ok ... is this the proper way as a Christian to post in the song forum or have I been a bad Christian since just about my whole life?

Come on John Help a Fellow Christian Out ?

I was going to comment on the song, but since this has turned into a quasi religious/philosophical argument, I will defer.  My only words of wisdom are:  if one submits a song on this forum, hopefully, one should have a thick enough skin to withstand a critique, whether right or wrong, without going into holy battle mode.

All the best,

Sounds pretty good for a quick take Paul, loads of energy. Bass is excellent. Why are the drums all over to the right though?

Because I see animosity all too often on the X2 forum, and I hate to see it bleed over into this forum.  BTW, I did enjoy the song (and your bass playing), and the fact that you put it together so fast is a testament to you and Sonar.  Peace.

I really don't know. Just messing with panning to get some separation. I don't think it works either.  I'd probably do something different if if I was serious about this mix .. And probably use a real drummer

Mooch, not bad at all given your description of how it was put together and its intended use.  Honestly, I'm envious, as I am frankly unable to do ANYthing that quickly.  Very nice for what it is.

yeah... for what it was, and what you were trying to accomplish with it, I think it was well done.

Nothing forces you to learn a song like recording it part by part. You have a fairly intimate knowledge of each part. So no, instructing the praise band becomes a bit easier.

mooch4056, Just happened to stop back in and WOW!!!

If I have in any way offended you for my post I am very sorry and hope you will forgive me. I never said the song you practiced with your wife was bad, only that it needed some fine tuning IMO before you were going to go teach it to others, so that it would be properly ready so that when presented to your church it would be tight and sound really good. I do not know about your teaching skills and therefore was not speaking bad against them. I think there was just a miss reading of your post on my behalf and a misunderstanding of what I was trying to relate to you. Again, I am very sorry. Please forgive me.

As for your defamation of my personal character toward me and my Christian beliefs, in your comments, well, all I can say is read John 15: 18-19

In this forum I have been ripped up one side and down another on my past work, but never responded in like manner. We must all take the good with the bad, learn from it and if a question arises, then there is private messaging to get things resolved and worked out. I do however forgive you, because I now can see where you were coming from after reading your original post and your comments. Truly they know us by our fruit.

Hope this will be beneficial for both of us on our future postings.

Peace be with you. Blessings, John
