Unless its a "highbrow" dinner, you can Google wine pairings and wine brands for you guys and SAVE MONEY for yourselves.. I have a friend who is a wine snob and she has bought high dollar wine for me and for our social gatherings, but she also was thrifty at some supermarkets who have a WIDE wine selections............................. Bottom Line .. what YOU guys like in taste is whats important...

Some Rieslings are pretty sweet. You probably wouldn't need to add sweetener for that. I'll look for you on that "customers of Walmart" web site.

If you like really sweet wine (desert wine), try out Ice wine.....very sweet (too much for my liking), but my wife loves it. I dunno if Wartmart carries it though.

I used to get that, it was nice... but now I m 60. I don't get carded anymore, lol. I have a high voice, I was a 1st tenor in school. When I go through drive through windows I more often than not get called "mam"... I got over it. The person at the window always looks awkward. Yesterday I brought home a bottle of Southern Comfort. My wife had been wondering what it is like... it came in a plastic bottle and smells like cough syrup... I didn't try it. She had a little then decided that Jack Daniels is better. She has a couple of small glasses on ice every afternoon. Me?... now and then, but I prefer a Kentucky bourbon "neat". If I drink wine I like Red Truck. J

In NC wine & beer are sold at grocery stores. Coming from NJ where anybody who wants to can open a "liquor store" .... where all alcohol is sold.... that was strange at first. Here, the govt has a monopoly on the good stuff.
We had a specialty wine shop open a number of years back..... not enough wine snobs here to keep the doors open. If it's not Mad Dog or Boones Farm..... it must not be wine I guess.
I used to really love Mateuse Portuguese Rose'... but I can't seem to find that here in NC in the grocery stores.

We used to have something up here called London Wineries...something being the keyword here.
This stuff was so sweet that it could make your teeth fall out just by looking at it. But boy could you get high off the fumes....

Ya, they came out with that red wine helps with your heart, and later they said that maybe it may help but again like usual - they are not sure. There it sits in the refrigerator with a half bottle left and three more sitting around outside the refrigerator because in the end - it drys out my mouth and it is not all that great, and that is one of the wet wines so to speak. The wine just sits and sits and sits there. Most of the time I miss it so I don't see it, so out of mind out of memory.

One of my biggest surprises when we arrived in NY was that they sold wine, beer and cigarettes at the pharmacy.
Plus, in Quebec, you can't buy alcohol after 11pm (except in bars, of course). So when I saw that guy buying a 6 pack and a pack of cigarettes at midnight at the nearest CVS, it was probably the biggest "cultural shock".
Also found it weird to see that WalMart was selling alcohol, here. But, hey, if the mission truly is to be a one-stop shop...

Here in Dubai you have to apply for a license that allows you to but alcohol from government stores. There is a rule that you also need the license to buy in a bar (unless you are a resident of the hotel). Its never enforced in bars unless you step out of line, then it's something else they can add to the charge sheet. Its actually free and easy (certainly compaired to some parts of Texas!) as long as you don't cause problems, then they throw the book at you, seems fair enough!

Tim, thanks. I'm too aware of the trouble drinking can be and I don't want any part of it. I lost my mom when she was only 52 to complications from drinking. Why my dad is still alive, none of us have any idea.
But anyway...back on topic....it's just fun to every now and then have someone wonder if I'm 40--even if they're only being kind, which is probably more the case. :)
