Nice enough groove going with this and the mix sounds reasonable, I do wonder if perhaps a little more presence in the lead voice would not go a miss or dare I suggest perhaps  a vocal.

    Hi, Ken,

Dynamite job on this tasty instrumental with lots of cool textures woven throughout the clean, crisp sounding mix!

I Really like how the clean guitar melodies floating over the synths and backing tracks give it a sunny outdoor feel, like taking a pleasant drive in the countryside.

    Great stuff, Ken!

    Have a good one!

Very good mix well played -- perhaps you'll add a vocal?

Can't call it prog - too well-structured and not even a little self-indulgent. But you can call it pleasant, that's for sure.

To me the mix sounds a bit muffled, but that may be my HF-challenged old-man ears. Part of that's due to a lot of frequency overlap between the bass, rhythm and lead guitars, so I'd start with some surgical EQ to help separate them. You might also want to experiment with a harmonic exciter, which can add a little sparkle on top. If you don't have anything fancy (e.g. FabFilter Saturn or iZotope Harmonic Exciter) on hand, try the free Roth-AIR. Try it on drum overheads to start, then maybe on the lead guitar.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I really liked this. It reminded a little bit of Altered Images (from way way back), without the singer. Nice guitar work and everything else held it all together really well.

I like the chord progression in this; it carries the melody in a way.  The mix sounds warm and not overly digital.  However, as others have pointed out, it could use something to tie everything together like a vocal or lead instrument.  As it is now, I give it an imcomplete, but with the right addition, it's a gem waiting to happen.

    All the best,
    Lynn

Good chord progressions, and I agree it ended too soon. I also agree with Bit that it needs more obscenely self-indulgent excess in the soloing department to help its prog cred.

The tones are fine but I also thought a bit more punch out of the kick/bass, and a bit more "air" up around 5-10k hz would be in order.

    Vocals might spoil it?

    cheers,
    -Tom

A very pleasant song indeed.  You did a really good job on the mix and playing.  It reminded me a lot of the theme and background music for a great Canadian TV show called Due South, which played for a while in the US.  It used a similar style of a nice crisp (and sometimes jangly) guitar lead over a bass prominent background instrumentation.  I bought the DVD's not just for the show but also for the music.

I'd love to hear more like this.
