Sonar 2.2 and windows 7

I have an ancient but working sonar 2.2 (I assume it falls into Home Studio).
Currently using XP with 2.5mhz processor and 2 gig ram... works very well.
I use a lot of vsts and Dxi plug ins without a problem.
Edirol UA-101 for sound and a Korg Nanopad, as well as usual midi devices.

My question is... has anyone got experience of using similar with windows 7?

I want to upgrade and go for a laptop but am unsure if the drivers etc. will work.
Also unsure if having dual/quad core would be an advantage as the software is old.
I could dual boot to XP but would prefer not to if possible.

Many thanks

Steve

I doubt it would work.  Sonar 2.2 is probably not HomeStudio, as that was named HS2002, HS2, HS4 etc...
That version will be so old I really doubt it'll work with Windows 7.  The upgrade cost to a newer version of Sonar shouldn't be much, especially if you add it into the costs of the new laptop.

Download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor from the Microsoft site. It will check your hardware and software to see if its compatible. Also, if you go to 64-bit Windows, which I recommend, then you need to make sure your soundcard or any other devices have 64-bit drivers available.

I am using Sonar2.2 on my new machine which is Windows 7 Professional 64bit.
It seems to work well so far.

The only problem, and I don't know if this is related, is that the Edirol VSC synths are not showing
up.

I'm still working on the problem. I  had installed using the original CD followed by downloads/patches for
version 2.1 and 2.2.  Otherwise it is working fine and I'm very happy that it functions as well as it does.
The Edirol VSC's had used on a couple of orchestral compositions that I still have minus the Edirol.

As I considered these works done after I exported them to Audio a few years back, I'm looking
to possibly just replacing the Edirol with something else, if I can't fix the problem.

Sorry. I almost forgot that the DirectX Utility which had been provided at the same time
as patches 2.1 and 2/2 was ESSENTIAL in my case at least. I had bee getting  an error message
that Sonar could  NOT be installed due to an incompatibility issue-went smoothly after I installed that
DirectX utility.

My condolences. Do you mix down to Maxell or TDK ?

You might be able to run these in Windows 7 Compatibility mode. This might help not sure though.
Good luck man

Sonar home is better than the old Sonar 2.2 XL. You can find Sonar X2 or X3 for about $99.00 somewhere. Even Sonar Artist would be better,
