Sonar 3 Studio only getting left channel via USB or mini jack on 2 different computers.

Hi, I didn't have this problem on my old 2003 Dell using outboard mixer to audio in mini jack.  But on both my 2 newer computers, desktop custom built and Dell laptop, I am only getting signal in the left channel, maybe a little noise in the right channel.  This is happening using the old outboard mixer to audio in mini jack, as well as with a/d interface USB, and it is doing it on both computers.  Wondering if there is a setting within Sonor to fix this or????  Thanks for your help.

Ok, so I checked the audio input in the track view, which was set for stereo mic 1/2 by default.  Only got left signal on the meter.  So I changed the input to left mic 1/2 and it worked, I got signal both channels on the meter.  If I change it again to right mic 1/2 I get nothing on the meter left or right.  Why would assigning left input give me both channels on the meter but stereo only one?  I am lost with this, but I fixed the problem.  Story of my life.  Input is welcome, no pun intended. Thx.

This is a description of how a mono works in SONAR. By setting the input selection on the track in SONAR to "left mic 1/2" you are telling SONAR the signal is coming from the left channel only. There is no signal arriving to SONAR on the right channel. Since it happens on multiple computers and multiple connection paths, look at the hardware before the PC connections. The mixer may not be setup correctly or has lost the right channel.

Thanks, but how does that explain why setting it for left mic 1/2 gets me both meters working, setting it for stereo only gets me the left meter, and setting it for right mic 1/2 gets me nothing?

Only the left channel is getting signal. Setting the input to "left mic 1/2", a mono input and the pan is set to Center will light up both side of the meter. Setting the track input to stereo input shows the signal on the left channel and the lack of signal on the right channel. Setting the input to the "right mic 1/2" show no signal because there is nothing coming in on the right channel.

Thx I follow you.  Its just that all my pans are centered, there is no outboard mixer, just the virtual one, and the a/d converter.  I get that somewhere the right channel is turned off when I am in stereo input mode, but no idea where, there aren't very many places to look.  But super great info scook thanks.

There is no right signal coming into the PC. Start troubleshooting from the cable connecting to the PC back to the signal origin. Since both USB and PC line inputs work the same, this would eliminate the cables.
