Sonar 6 Producer Edition - CRASHES - Please Help!

First of all... yes I'm a total newbie to this forum but I am not a complete beginner with audio hardware and software... I've been using Adobe Audition for quite some time but since I converted to Cakewalk I've had nothing but trouble!!

The problem I'm now experiencing is that basically everytime I try to record ANY audio whatsoever the whole program shuts down after less than a second of recording. There is no error message or any clue as to what the problem could be. It happens EVERY single time I start recording and it's beginning to annoy me a little bit!

Please help anyone who has an idea what the problem might be. At the moment I'm just using a standard cheap USB PC microphone but will soon be using a RODE NT1-A studio condenser mic so I need to get this issue resolved!!

thanks

What's your soundcard? Which drivers do you use? WDM or ASIO or MME? What's your latency? XP or Vista? Etc. etc.

"At the moment I'm just using a standard cheap USB PC microphone"

I think that's a good place to start. Many of those USB-based mics have terrible drivers.
