Sonar 6 -> P5

Hi-- I've done a search and read some stuff, but it still isnt clear to me the best way to do the following:

I have several soft synth midi tracks in Sonar6 PE. I would like to put these in the groove matrix of P5.
Can I do this when I have Sonar hosting P5 as a re-wire device ?

I know I can save the midi files in Sonar,import them into P5 and set up the instruments the same way as they were in Sonar, but I was wondering if there is a way to do it more directly ?

Thanks,
Dan

    You have to turn Sonar's clip into a groove clip. Then you can drag it into P5's Arrange pane. From there you can do whatever you like.
    I think you're supposed to be able to drag it directly into the Groove Matrix as well, but I've never been able to get it to work.

    Thanks for reponding. With audio files it seems to work, but with midi it seems I have to set up the instrument separately in P5. Is this your experience also ?

    Not really there, you would have to reset your instrument and import the midi paterns into p5. If Sonar supported device chains then it would be a simple matter of saving the chain then opening it up in Project5, however nothing but the top Applications like Project5 and Kinetic support device chains.

    Yeah, it's kind of annoying. Hopefully, the upcoming revision will improve this.

    Sonar does support device chains, they are just more complex than P5's and incompatible.

    I know what you meant but technically they arent device chains.

    Apart from being able to store multiple tracks in Sonar's device chains, what other major differences are there? They can both hold synth and fx plugins in them...it always seemed like Sonar's version was just an enhanced version of the P5 idea. It may well happen that P5 will get the Sonar style ones if flexible routing is implemented...
