Sonar 6, what??!!
I just got off the phone with Cakewalk (1-888-cakewalk) to try to get an estimated ship date on my Sonar 6 software, as I will be out of town for some time in the next week or so. Anywho, when I asked about Sonar 6 and when it will ship the phone rep told me: "Sonar 6 has not been released yet and won't ship for a week or so." I said, "Wait, I have been reading posts up on the Sonar forum from folks who have actually received their copies of Sonar 6." He said, "Yeah, but the information I have says that it has not been released yet and won't be shipping out for a while." I said, "But, ...oh, forget about it." -mr moon

What do you expect, the Pakistani phone rep Cakewalk hires cheap for support can only read what's on the card in front of them.

ORIGINAL: jasonperi I got the same answer. What the...? It's likely "under promise and over deliver" tactics. I do it all the time. I learned it from Scotty on Star Trek. How long will it take to get this job done? A week, maybe a week and a half minimum. <One hour later> Hello, this is Dave. Your order is ready. Well, I had a guy that had a bit of time open and I got him on your job right away since you are such a good customer.

Nah, I detected the flatlander's dialect and nasally tonal expression in his voice. This feller was straight outta da midwest, oh yah, you betcha.... Oh, and I think Scotty was famous for taking any engineering feat which normally would have taken *days*, and whittling it down to like half an hour ...just in the nick of time ...and there was always the threat that the dylithium crystals were going to crack due to the stress of it all. -mr moon

If I remember correctly, they used a fulfillment center in Nashua NH for S5. I bet the communication between the two entities pretty much sucks. Just another downside to outsourcing.

This is true if the facts-of-the-moment are correct and don't contradict one another. But in this case, it should be considered misinformation and CW has an ethical responsibility to correct the misinformation.

They always say something like 5-7 days (for 3-5 day shipping), but then get it to me in 3-5... Their review sections are always filled with people going... I give this [product_name] 5 eggs because they got it to me 2 days EARLY, even though they got it in 3-5 days for 3-5 day shipping. Looks like the tactic works... Scottie was a genius. - zevo

Ha! And now for the punch line! I just got the following email: "Thank you for purchasing a product from Cakewalk. Your order has been shipped via FEDEX, your tracking number is xxxxxxxxxx. You can track your order by going to the following link: http://fedex.com/cgi-bin/tracking?action=track&language=english&cntry_code=USA&initial=x&tracknumbers=xxxxxxxxx You can also go to http://www.fedex.com/us/tracking/ and enter your tracking number. For future reference: Your Cakewalk Customer ID is xxxxxxx Your order number is xxxxxxx Please do not reply to this email. If you have a question about an order, other questions or comments, please call 1.888.CAKEWALK, or 617.423.9004" Apparently there's some kind of shenanigans going on... -mr moon

We, as in Human Race, I presume. Otherwise, that was a distressing revelation, notably since H is nowhere near W. :o

The 'shenannigans' going on is called 'under promise - over deliver'. Cakewalk is good at this. Perhaps better than almost any other software manufacturer.

My history with Cake is that things usually come pretty quickly after the ads begin to roll. I have been through 9 or so major upgrade cycles on Cakewalk and Sonar. Maybe 8.
Sonica dual core 3.4 GHz with 2GB ram, 2-300GB audio drives 1-80Gb system drive, RME DIGI 9652, Sonar 6 PE, Mackie D8B, 2x MOTU MTP AV USB, TC Powercore Firewire, UAD1, vintage synths, Modcan modular, guitars, outboard gear,

That is what we call, a fukkup, or "boo-boo" which ever you prefer. I love baseball, so I refer to them as freudian slide, rather than a slip... James Kirk does NOT live in my brain (yes he does), he does not tell me what to do (yes I do), and he does not like 'em green with scales (yes I do)... I guess I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue... Anywho, time to watch the tracking numbers! -mr moon
