Sonar 7: M-Audio Delta 44 + X-FI Platinum
I was wondering if anyone has ever attempted to run these to cards together in Sonar 7. - M-Audio Delta 44 - X-FI Platinum At the moment I run an M-Audio Delta 44 for recording in Sonar 7 and an onboard Realtek Audio HD for everyday PC use, gaming, and plugging a mic for vocal practice as this outputs to my 5.1 sound system (Vista 32bit SP1) The reason why I don't just run everything off the M-Audio card is because they are crap for gaming and don't have 5.1 output. This setup works quit well except for a few minor bugs which sometimes require a reboot before I do recording sessions (as to be expected running 2x sound cards...) The problem is I cannot run my Realtek sound card in Sonar as it does not support ASIO...meaning my Realtek Outputs cannot be used in Sonar 7 , which have my 5.1 setup connected too. I would really like to be able to use these for listing to mixes without having to export the mix and run in Windows Media Player. I currently mix with some Mid/Low market monitors and some Mid/Low headphones. The solution I have come up with is the Creative X-FI Platinum. It has ASIO support so I could in theory use the outputs within Sonar...IN THEORY. ???? Has anyone tried this sort of setup as id assume there could be all kinds of problems with drivers and that. ???? The X-FI also has some VERY attractive features on its breakout box which im interested in also.... Please feel free to make any comments or suggestions Any

just set up sonar to use only the ASIO D44 drivers and all should be fine. OPTIONS>AUDIO>DRIVERS>INPUT and OUTPUT DRIVERS = M-AUDIO DELTA 44 and OPTIONS>AUDIO>GENERAL>RECORDING and PLAYBACK TIMING MASTERS = MAUDIO D44 that should set up sonar to use only the D44 every time and you can use the SB card for gaming or whatever outside of sonar.

I had a Creative X-FI Platinum, it was great for gaming, not good for recording. The ASIO for all driver was better for me with that card then their own ASIO driver. Setting it up like Beagle is telling you is a great compromise.

The reason why I don't just run everything off the M-Audio card is because they are crap for gaming Other than the 5.1 output or lack of....... Why are they crap for gaming?.....Because they don't have a bunch of cheesy FX, with super crappy built in soundfonts?

He wants to listen to mixes within sonar on the X-Fi for another reference. I see what you want to do, but I wouldnt recommend it. That being said, you never know if it will work until you try- mixing in 5.1 surround sound?

The only advantage is EAX supported games do sound much better with a Creative card to be honest EAX was a sacrifice I didn't want to make myself, but I don't even notice it's not there anymore. I have reservations about this working well because I tried it with my old X-Fi and line6 Toneport, for some reason Sonar would only recognize the Line6 device, when plugged in, in the audio setup, I had the windows audio setup as Line6 for recording and X-fi as playback, for some reason the audio quality and latency was no better then just using the X-fi with WDM driver.

quality? yeah, the x-fi prolly sounds pretty good. Latency? Well, the x-fi is pci right? and the toneport usb? well, if the x-fi runs stable with wdm driver, i can see how the pci setup will make up to make its latency measurment close to, equal or possibly a little better than the toneport(pci is ultimately a better setup than usb and even firewire still for low latency performance)

a lot of the SB cards have a fixed rate of 48. and not 44.1 etc. for say spdif.. used to cause me headaches years ago. also the fact that all these cards will swallow up IRQ's or worse try to share and cause conflicts.

Yes............but its worse......they re-sample everything in and out.................because of this the specs are a joke..as in innaccurate.........you might get 78dB out them. On some models they will run @ 24bit only one direction.......when used in a duplex app they run 16/48

back in they day they were alright solely for soundfonts (which is what I used em for) instead of a £2000 akai 3000xl with only 32mb .. but that was long ago..hehe

Thnx for your input. My original idea was to have Sonar detect both the M Audio and the X-FI in ASIO mode...however only use the x-FI's as OUTPUT as its be connected to my 5.1. The M-Audio would be used for input AND output to my stereo monitors. The X-FI's output would only be used SOMETIMES when i want to listen to the mix through another setup Currently im setup to JUST use the M AUDIO

Did you end up getting the Delta44 and X-Fi to coexist happily?
