Sonar 7 Producer, Roland A-30, E-MU Xmidi 1x1 Tab

I've got Sonar 7 Producer Edition, a Roland A-30 Midi Controller Keyboard, and I just bought an E-MU XMIDI 1.1 Tab MIDI-USB cable. I've installed the cable driver, plugged everything in, and set Sonar's Midi input to the E-Mu, but pressing keys on the Roland does nothing. When I play Midi files in Sonar, a light on the cable blinks. This makes me think the problem is with the Roland. Any advice is appreciated.

You have to assign the output of a MIDI track to a softsynth, i.e. TTS-1. Insert a softsynth, i.e., Cakewalk TTS-1, set the output of the MIDI track to the TTS-1 and then you should be able to play the keyboard and get sound.

Sounds like your mixing up the in and out end of the cable.
If the cable lights up then it must be recieving a MIDI message. That end would go into a outboard MIDI sound source.

Right - the MIDI IN goes into the MIDI OUT and vice-versa.

Hi guys. Thanks for your suggestions. After trying them all, I took the EMU back to the store and discovered it was defective. I'm now the proud owner of a fully-functional Midisport Uno. Thanks again for all the advice. Sorry it was a wild goose chase!
