Sonar 7 won't see sample tank soft synth

I can't get Sonar to recognize Sample Tank soft sampler. In global i added the vst directory and did a scan. Doesn't see it. I copied the sample tank vst directory into the cakewalk vst directory and re scanned. Still didn't see it. Any of you experts experts have any ideas?

Windows 8, sample tank 3. Just for curiosity I uninstalled Sample tank 3, and reinstalled sample tank 2.5. Sonar saw it immediately. Begs the question is there a compability problem or a mistake somewhere on my part?

SampleTank 3 has gone 64-bit only.  What type host are you running?

I have a couple of 32-bit DAW hosts installed on a 64-bit Windows, and ST3 never shows up in them.

Windows s 64. Sample Tank 3 works ok. Sonar just won't see it. As a side issue. Sonar sees sample tank 2 but wont play a recorded midi track on it. Will play the soft synths that came with sonar. I am starting to wonder if this is really worth it. Maybe I should just stick to hardware synths. Thanks for the help.

It probably has something to do with a product that was made for Windows XP (10 years ago).
Sonar 7 was released in Sept of 2007. It may be time to upgrade even to Sonar Home studio (which is only 50 bucks).

You didn't answer the question.  Did you install Sonar 32-bit, or 64-bit?  ST3 is not compatible with Sonar 32-bit.

It doesn't matter about Windows, except the installer won't run unless it's on 64-bit OS.

Oh I thought you meant windows 64/32 bit. My mistake. Sonar is in the programs 64 folder. And you are probably right about Sonar being too old. My wife always says "go to the new technology." Me, "if it still works why replace it." I'm just on old guy stuck in the past because everything worked. Maybe it's time to clear the decks and start over with new versions. Thanks for the help.

Try the Sonar demo.  You can get the latest version for as little as $49 with Home Studio.  It has the same core DAW audio engine as Platinum, but without the additional content, instruments, effects, etc.

The advantage to upgrading is that software developers are currently targeting Windows 10, 8.1, and 7. for the application programming libraries these days, so application compatibility could be an issue for anything developed earlier, such as for Windows XP.

I've just looked at the Sonar 7 documentation and it says XP and Vista. For a short while I ran it on Windows 7 and it was very stable on that platform.

It has run very well on Windows 8. Just not compatible with Sample tank. Since my copy of Sonar Home Studio is 5 years old I can safely say it's time to upgrade. Teach me to try something new .

Updating Plugin Manager might help. I believe that Plugin Manager is a shared resource and installing a trial copy of the latest version of Sonar would effectively update Plugin Manager for the existing Sonar 7 installation. SampleTank might behave differently after the update. Just a suggestion.

So it's Sonar Home Studio 7 rather than Sonar 7. That was a slightly different product, released a year later, and after Sonar 8. Crazy times.

Maybe I need work on my approach,
The point I was trying to make to the OP is...it might be time to move to a newer version.

Pro audio 9.0 loaded my old projects and ran on Windows 7 as well but wouldn't load plug ins.
And Sonar 7 HS XL (which I also have) would run but wouldn't load certain plug ins anymore (like Studio Devil VGA) in Windows 10.

I have Sample Tank 2 and Sonik Synth 2! Try running Sonar in administrative mode, rescan and they should work!

    This.

Many moons ago after installing X3 and taking the advice of someone here that I should select  "reset all" in the plug-in manager, I had quite a few problems among which Sampletank 2.5 and Miroslav which had always worked fine, were no longer recognised and wouldn't show up in the synth menu no matter how many re-scans I did. Open in admin mode and they were there and work fine. No idea why this should be, but it works for me.

Could it be a VST 3 issue?
