Sonar 8 and M Audio Axiom support

What is Cakewalks problem with M audio controllers?
Sonar 7 is very tricky to get an Axiom controller working.

What gives with the short list of preset keys and will Sonar 8 have more popular
key controllers presets?

Win 7 Pro x64
3.0 GHz Intel E6850 Core Duo
8GB Ram
Intel DP35DP
Echo Mia Midi
Echo Gina 3G
M-Audio Axiom 49
Sonar X-1c, Reason 6

I thought that love was worth something, I just gave mine away for nothing.

I bought the 61 and I finally have it working the way I want it to. I do hope they have made improvements to the ACT presets though. It still takes "Forever" to set it up again if anything happens to my current settings.

    I gave up on mine.
I use it for playing, and an Alphatrack for automation and control.
Forget spending hrs to setup a controller.

I have the Axium 49 that i use for triggering soft synths or hardware synth modules. I use my presonus faderport as my control surface. I never did try to use my axium as a control surface, but i know there are threads in here that explain how to do it. Just use the search ( i hope it works) and look at some threads. Good Luck, you'll need it with the axium..

I'm guessing people could use "mod bod" 's info in the thread.. also to get the transport controls working.

Don't give up fellas. Once you get it set up, it's easy, and works really well. It's just a process, but the guide Mod Bod put out there was really helpful. I highly suggest you search out his postings and print them out as I did. I now have all of my MSR buttons & Transport set up.

I'll never understand why M-Audio made things so difficult. I have the Axiom 25 thats been out for years and theres no support whatsoever. The Enigma software is horrendous at best. The whole "control panel" thingy underneath the LED screen? Absolutely NO documentation? Are you suppose to guess what they do? You can forget their forums, it's as if your a leper if you have a problem with something. I does make me feel a bit better knowing you guys have had similar problems.

I got the volume slider to work. Seems to work with anything.

Other than that - not a peep. I read all the stuff I could find and followed it. Never worked for me.

I was novice before and I still am.

ACT then started laughing at me. It said it stood for Another Clueless Twit.

it's not laughing I now. I never use it. I won.

    I agree 100%..
I used to have a Novation Remote 25.. And it kicked the Axiom.

I have an Axiom 49. I love the action.
I use envelopes to tweak synths, so I dnt really use it for its controllers.

iHEART sonar7 Not Sonar 8, as I dont have it yet.

never went on their forum, did join the yahoo group though. yep the enigma I'm guessing is a java app, and it's not very nice to use. I use it in reason also, and it's great to use in that as are many other things like the BCF2000, they made it really simple to install and use.

Part of it might be the fact that M-Audio has sided with Pro-Tools, and Cake has partnered with Roland. Hopefully they'll have more support for the M-Audio stuff this time around. There's certainly enough people out there using M-Audio products.

M-Audio's Axiom manual leaves a lot to be desired. I have an Axiom 61. I like it, but it took awhile to get a handle on it. A little more detail in the manual would go a long ways. Setting up sliders 'n knobs wasn't a big issue once I understood the procedure. It does what I want. Haven't tried setting up the transport functions and probably won't bother.

Bonzos.. I set mine up using a separate profile as an MMC controller. It works well that way. Mod Bod's big post on the Axiom has the instructions, and it isn't to hard to set up.

    Thanks nathan217.

It's not that I'm afraid to try to setup the transport function, it's just that I don't have any need at present to use it as a transport remote.

Yes, Mod Bod's Axiom tutorial post is a good one. Maybe he should write their manuals.

Ha ha. At least I speak English. (As well as a southerner can. Maybe I should cross out the English bit. )

Anyway, the first page would contain.

"You have just bought a piece of crap. Don't get used to using the impact pads on the left side of the keyboard. As soon as you find a good use for them, they will (one by one) cease to work."

The key to getting the transport keys to work is to set them up for MMC. I believe I gave instructions in my Axiom thread. I can't remember how to do it anymore. The best way to get the transport controls going is to buy an Alphatrack.

It took me a little while to figure out how to get my 61 working as a control surface, but now that I figured it out....it works flawlessly. I use it LIVE every week. Its been working wonderfully.

I haven't used ACT yet though.....just the control surface.

    BTW.....I'm using SONAR PE7

Good thing I don't use the pads for anything. No loss there.

I think most budget priced keyboard controllers are glorified pieces of crap these days. I use my Roland and Yamaha synths for laying down keyboard tracks for the most part. Their stuff doesn't break. (Not referring to their cheap controllers) I primarily picked up the Axiom to use with NI B4II as well as to have a versatile keyboard controller dedicated to my Motif ES Rack module. Lotsa hands on tweekability possible with that synth.

For what it's worth, I wrote something up that was put into the Project 5 wiki that might help.
Look in the hardware List->section 2.2.1 - 'M-Audio Axiom Keyboards'
Sonar and P5 use the same ACT setup.

There are a couple of 'gotchas' in programming the Axiom that made me want to throw the thing out the window when I found them. But once I got past that, I have been using it as my transport/control surface ever since.
