That every box would hold a secret decoder ring and a map containing cryptic clues to "The Holy Grail of DAWs" buried somewhere on planet Earth (probably) for some dashing, intrepid Sonar user who knows how to get by on wit and grit and who's got a certain devil may care attitude that both enthralls and annoys people at the same time, to find and claim.

yoropal: You mean instead of just including it in the box? That seems kind of convoluted.

(It of course being "The Holy Grail of DAWs" aka Sonar ;).

I wrote a very interesting paper on software and consumers and the market place about a year ago. My just was that being such demanding consumers (mostly Americans), we tend to want the newest thing right away. Software companies struggle with producing a high-quality product in a small time window. This creates a product full of bugs, leakes, and instability.

For example, look at MS Vista. Microsoft will openly admit that they rushed it out the door, to get with Apple's new OS (i don't eat apples so I don't know which one) Now, they are scrambling patching up holes and fixing things that would have been fixed prior it's release.

Sonar developers are smart people, they hopefully know that they are getting a good foot-hold in this market, and should not have to rush 60-80% products to the shelves.

    Just my 2 centz.

    Sonar 6.2.1
    BFD Drums v1.5.45 Q
    Windows XP SP2
    AMD 64 3400+
    2 GB DC RAM 2.0cas

    Haha,

Seriously, after seeing the feature list for v7, I'm ready to START the one for v8. I realize the official word isn't out yet, but after a glance that list, I'm bummed that nearly every one of the things I thought for sure would get addressed has not been. I think I need some cheese with my whine.

Twelve Tone Systems, Inc.: 14M revenue, 64 employees (http://biz.yahoo.com/ic/102/102846.html)

    Microsoft, Inc.: 51B revenue, 71,000 employees (http://biz.yahoo.com/ic/14/14120.html)

The market that Twelve Tone is in is all about rushing products to market. The trick is in controlling quality, and quickly responding to quality control issues.

My wish list for SONAR 8:

    A nice step sequencer.

I'd like to get more out of the piano roll view. I've never used it, but I might if it had things like note split, a paint feature, or ability to drag-quantize.

Demo versions of other CW products, like Dimension, Rapture, Z3TA+, etc. would be nice, but I want to be able to call the synths whatever I want in synth rack view. E.g., I think I'd like Z3TA+ more if I could call it "Doug."

Sidechaining would be very useful, especially with the Sonitus plug-ins.

Most importantly, though, I want the program to allow playback even with no data. (I write a lot of very quiet pieces.)

Well, since this is (or has become) "the wishful thinking" thread.. I'd like to. Scratch that, love to see a way to use parts of one ap, in another ap. Like if I could use ONLY fl studio's Piano Roll in Sonar. That would be a dream come true!

I would like a button on the task bar that you press after you master your song and instantly there is a line of buyers for the song...and then I guess I would need a build-in PayPal account button so I can accept their money over the Internet. That ought to just about do it for me. Not much of an upgrade--just a little tweak.
