Sonar 8 support Mackie HUI protocol???

I've search around the forum and I can't seem to find a direct answer.

Does Sonar 8 support Mackle Hui protocol?

I'm interest in the new Audient Zen console which has automated faders and communicates to the DAW via Mackie Hui protocol.  (I'm new to this automated fader world.)  Thanks for your help.

This console is pretty cool!!!

No. HUI is for PT.  Nice controller though.

Well now according to the Audient Zen manual it states:

"The Zen automation communicates with your DAW via the Mackie HUI™ protocol.
Any DAW that supports HUI control surfaces should work,
however Zen has been optimized to work with Logic 8, Pro Tools 7.4+ (LE and HD), Cubase 4+ and Nuendo 3+."

This tells me there are more uses for the HUI protocol than just communicating with Pro Tools.  Am I missing something?  Is the HUI protocol proprietary and therefore Sonar could not support it if they choose to?

    Thanks again.

How does that have anything to do with Sonar? The HUI was a Mackie CS for working with PT. If a few other DAWs also support it that has no bearing on Sonar supporting it. If you are looking for a similar CS that will support Sonar look at the CW/Roland VS 700.

HUI is a protocol (developed by Digi for PT), just like the Mackie Control protocol.. many other DAWs support it (incl. cubendo and Logic).

I'll check if Sonar has HUI support.

The VS 700 is not the same thing as the ZEN... The ZEN is a fully autonomous analog console, which can be automated through a DAW supporting the HUI protocol, and which can also be used as a control surface.

    See this.

HUI MIDI mapping protocol From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search
The HUI(tm) MIDI mapping protocol is an open communications protocol for interfacing between a hardware audio control surface and digital audio workstation (DAW) software. The protocol allows a DAW and a connected hardware control surface to exchange Midi signals that synchronize the states of their (virtual) sliders, buttons, wheels, and displays. The user can write console automation which can then be seen in the DAW.
This protocol was created Jointly by Mackie and DigiDesign in 1997 Mackie for their HUI product the first hardware control surface for protools. It was also the protocol used in the Baby HUI product mackie released much later Human User Interface (HUI(tm)) product.
It is now used very widely. Many hardware controllers (Tascam FW-1082, Mackie Control Universal, Yamaha 01X, Alesis MasterControl, SSL AWS900, etc.) implement this protocol. Similarly many types of DAW software implement the HUI(tm) protocol, making them cross-compatible with the HUI(tm)-compatible hardware controllers. While HUI is still supported on the hardware side non Digi software has moved on to more open MCU and other midi control protocols as DigiDesign has made extensive controllers with proprietary protocols that have much more rich capabilities but are part of a closed system. ]

I just checked, and there is no "HUI" control surface in Sonar 8.5

Is there any compatability between the HUI and MCU protocols?

No. The HUI was meant for PT and works for it.  But the Mackie Control Universal and the Mackie Control Universal Pro have HUI modes built in. The Mackie Control does not. The modes in the MCU and MCUP are Logic Control, Mackie Control and Human User Interface modes. The only mode that is of concern to Sonar users is the MC mode. The other two modes are not recognized by Sonar and have no interest to a Sonar user.

Whoa there, there IS a way to make SONAR work with HUI, but it is only in a limited way. I use SONAR with HUI every day (well I do use it every day one more now my brief but torrid affair with Cubase ended in bitter acrimony).  The controller you want is called C.M. Labs MotorMix.  Really it's only faders that work, but they seem very solid and faders are really all I need.  Probably doesn't really make the most of that shiny new mixer though.

Why on earth Sonar doesn't properly support one of the most common protocols is beyond me.  But there again a lot of thinking behind Sonar is beyond me....

How did you solv it? Could you share your information about using this protocol  with Sonar?

This was from 2009. And Sonar has changed a lot since then. You are always best off to start a new thread, state your exact problem and you'll get faster results that way.
