Sonar 8 with windows 7 64-bit

Hi!
I have been using Sonar 8.something (prior 8.5) for years without many issues.
It's almost time for me to upgrade from a quad-core Windows XP 32-bit PC to a Windows 7 64-bit PC.

The question I have is, will I HAVE to upgrade Sonar at the same time or will Sonar 8 work fine in a 64-bit OS?
I tried to find the answer on the main site however I couldn't find the ol' Sonar 8 product page.

There are several treads discussing the potential pitfalls in detail. To sumarise 8.5 was the first version certified to run on Windows 7 and people have had issues with Version 8 on Win 7.

I think its a Win 7 thing, not 64 bit. 8.3 worked fine for me on Vista 64 bit.

Run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor before upgrading.

Big issue with bundles and SONAR on Win 7 prior to 8.5. If you have mis-matched bit depths in your projects they won't load. If you don't use bundles, you should be OK for a bit.

I just upgraded to Win 7 Pro 64 bit. Has some issues early on with the upgrade, so I'm running Sonar 8.5.4 in 32 bit mode right now. So far the only issues I've had was that SD2 didn't install properly or somethings wrong with it. All the projects using SD2 error out, so I just need to update them to SD3. PITA, but OK - I can do it.

I've got a bunch of old plugs, so I'm staying with 32 bit Sonar for now.

The other thing going on is the Synth Rack View used to float. Now it opens in it's own window, or pins itself to the track view. Another PITA, but I can work around it.

Other than that, Sonar is working great in Windows 7. Once you figure out where all the windows settings moved it's a pretty slick O/S.

X1 runs fine on Win 7. I have been able to make the switch to 64 bit with it as it seems more stable than 8.5 (at least the 64 bit version).

DaveT you can undock the synth rack view if you choose in 8.5

    emwhy,
I've tried all the solutions posted on this group. So far nothing has returned it to simple floating. If I maximize the console/track windows as I like to view them, the synth rack opens in another window. I'll keep futzing with it. It's not a deal breaker, but when stuff like this gets changed it just bothers me, ya know???

    Thanks for the post...
