Sonar 8.5 Studio How Do I Record A VST Plugin?

Sorry if that question doesnt make sense. I use EZ Drummer through Sonar 8.5, and can make beats no problem, but how in the world do I record them? Heres a picture...

http://s144.photobucket.c...p;current=photo-27.jpg

If you look at the left by the tracks, theres currently a beat playing. If you look where I circled in the bottom right, theres an orange button that says "write", but when I click it, the record button (where I circled at the top center) doesnt turn "un-gray". So how do I record my beats? Thank you.

Select the MIDI track and the softsynth track and Edit-Bounce to Tracks.

Or do the same and select File-Export-Audio to export to a WAV file.

Are you actually playing EzDrummer or just playing a pattern with the EzDrummer play button? EzDrummer is drag and drop, if it's just a drum pattern.

There are tutorials about using softsynths in the help file. They all work in the same way.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

Why do you need to "record" it?  If you have the midi data there Z drummer will play it every time you press play, including mix down.  I usually just leave it that way, granted there's no cool pretty looking wave patterns to look at in the track view but the audio is there....
If you just want to see them you can freeze the tracks.

    Hello everyone,
Long time Sonar lover, first post.
I have a similar question, relevant to the thread.
I cue up a vst like addictive drums, triggered by my electric setup with minimal latency, sounds great. When I record the midi, the notes all show up but when sent back to the VST,many drop.Quantizing has had equally disappointing results.

"Is there a way to record the live audio of a vst? no midi."
I'm even considering using a separate machine to just record the audio and move it over to my project.

I also understand that MIDI is the key principal of VST's, and never once have I had a problem of this nature with keyboard  parts.

    Thanks everyone.

Sure. You'll have to route the audio output back into the soundcard's audio input and record it onto an audio track. Be careful or you might get some nasty feedback.

if you're dropping MIDI notes that could be because you have your latency set too low or because your drum head is not set up to send the same notes that your softsynth (EZD) is receiving (and thus you'd need a drum map) or your drum head is not set up correctly.

record a VST no MIDI?  there has to be MIDI for a softsynth to work.  softsynths MUST have MIDI to trigger them.

you don't have to RECORD the MIDI, but MIDI HAS to be sent to the softsynth or it won't trigger the sounds.  if you want to record the sounds of the softsynth without recording MIDI, then the only way to do that is to route the output back to the input like daveny said.

Make sure your monitoring the soft synth output and not your drum brain output or a combo mix. That will result in thinking the note was triggered in the soft synth but was not. The soft synths will respond to velocity differently than your kit too. Some tweaking might be required in the brain. I would stay with recording midi as there is much better editing options.

If you hear them while recording, but not on playback, it's probably your Prepare Using buffer being too small. Preferences > MIDI > Playback and Recording. If it's under 500ms, start there, and increase in increments of 100 as necessary until the problem goes away. You shouldn't have to go over 1000.
