Sonar 8.5
I guess since Sonar X1 is the new thing, it's hard to find 8.5.3 stuff now

Sorry about that. I haven't been doing music that much since last year. Everything seems to revolve around X1. Anyway, I guess that's neither here nor there. I was playing a song in 8.5.3 today and in the middle of the song, the whole track's audio just disappeared. I heard pop sound and then the audio died. Then it came back and disappeared again. Weirdest thing I'd ever seen Sonar do. I thought it would go away after playing it back but same thing. I don't know if anybody has ever experienced that before but to me it was the damnedest thing. Can anybody give me a suggestion as to what the possibilities it could be? I am using Reason 5 and Omnisphere with this song.

I get the impression there are still plenty of folks using 8.5.3 (including me). Cakewalk's email pleas to get us to upgrade to X1 seem more and more desperate. Or maybe they're just trying to sweep up the last few stragglers.

Bristol_Jonesey, It is just the one project. I don't know how it happened, but it's the strangest thing I'd ever experienced in Sonar. The audio signals are still going up and down until it gets to a certain place in the song. It's the same places every time so I thought it might be some type of automation glitch but it's all audio; everything else appears to be working. So I'm scratching my head now.....

Or maybe they're just trying to sweep up the last few stragglers. Well, I still would like to know how to work competently with what I have. I haven't fully reached that goal yet. If I were to switch to X!, I would have the same problems I have now with new problems...I don't knock the new product, but it seems that we try to keep up with the Joneses when the Smiths are OK. Sonar 8.5.3 is stable enough for me to make great tracks; now it seems I need X1 to make better tracks... I get it; the newest models I would love to have but I still need to understand the older model. So, the X1 is not marketed toward boomers like me....peace

Problem solved. I didn't want to get too deep into a hole that I couldn't get out of, so i just used "Save As" to create a fresh copy of the original. Maybe the original was corrupted. Anyway, I hope I don't run into that issue again. It was weird..... I don't really like coming to the forum that much before trying to solve these problems myself, but I know this forum is the best whenever I have a problem....Thanks for listening anywhow...

Or maybe they're just trying to sweep up the last few stragglers. Yes. Many are still using SONAR 1 - 8.5 versions, and they have this user forum and support. The "old SONAR" has not disappeared anywhere. Isn't it very normal business behaviour to advertise a new product and try to make people upgrade? What makes it "desperate" in your eyes?? That's exactly what they did when SONAR 5,6,7,8.... came out, and will do when X2, X3...come out.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

It's exactly what EVERY retailer in world commerce do when they have a new product to launch. Singling Cakewalk out is a bit naive at best.

I totally understand; however, there are some people that are not ready to make an upgrade. I would love to make the change as soon as I can master what I have. I have not done that yet. That is neither Cakewalk's fault nor mine. They still have to be competitive but I found it difficult to find anything that pertains to 8.5.3. It was like once X1 was introduced, 8.5 was pretty much abandoned. I will upgrade as soon as I'm comfortable with what I have. I'm pretty much a part-time user. Baby boomer. As soon as I retire, I will be able to master faster because the upgrade does look fantastic.....

Keep in mind that the more you master what you have, the more you will have to un-learn when you go to X-1.

Chappel Keep in mind that the more you master what you have, the more you will have to un-learn when you go to X-1. Makes sense. I still have some basic issues with Sonar that I still need to understand before I move on to any other upgrade. I would say by the time X1 is super stable, I will probably be ready then. Hell, it's only $100 bucks...

now it seems I need X1 to make better tracks... Bite your tongue, Clarence! There is absolutely nothing you can do in X1 that you can't do in 8.5. Be happy that you got 8.5 while it was still available. Now that it's gone, there are a lot of folks on SONAR 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 whose only upgrade option is X1. Don't feel bad that X1 is not marketed to boomers like us. Few things are, other than Medicare Supplemental insurance policies.

I upgraded to X1... but 8.5.3 STILL remains the REAL and only SONAR, at the moment..............
