Sonar 8.5 " Clean Install " .... how do I do it ?

Hi all !

I am about to place my 8.5 upgrade order.

I also want to be able to do a  ground-up-fresh-clean-install  of  Sonar  8.5  [  ie: without Sonar 8.3.1 already on the system ].

I presume this is possible ( ? )

Assuming it is possible,  can I do this if I order the  " download "  version  OR  do need to buy the  " physical media "  kit   [ $20 more ]   to do this  ?

Many thanks,
Tom

It is possible, but only with the DVDs. The download needs to copy data from an existing 8.x install.

Thanks brundlefly - another question if you dont mind:-

=> I  again  presume  then that you can go direclty from  8.0.0  to  8.5  without first  having to also install the exisiting intervening inbetween  [ 8.01, 8.02, 8.3.1 etc.... ]  updates  ?

Yes. That's right. 8.5 includes all the updates from 8.3.1. You just have to install the 8.5.1 patch to get completely current.

I just did a clean install from the 8.5 disc set after deleting 7.02 and 8.3.1 from the PC to free up space. It worked fine. Be sure to look in the advanced installation section there are some things there you might want-need.

    Tom

Whilst you need any kind of v8 install to be present when first installing the 8.5 download version you can uninstall v8 afterward, but you must run the 8.5 installer again after that uninstall for everything to work correctly.

There are advantages though to keeping a nicely maintained v8.3.1 version working and little to be gained by removing it....see my response  in your other post for details.

I don't know if you can from the download ask Tech Support.

But save the download somewhere--preferably to a disk.  BUT DO NOT load the upgrade from the disk.  Copy the entire folder to the hard drive you will be using--there are huge zipped up bins that have to be uzipped and running from the disk stops the installation.  I know that should not be but come on typical Roland, great technology terrible instructions.

I popped it over in Vista 64 (next machine for the studio but not ready for prime time yet) and my current XP Pro working studio machine with no problems (V64 eliminates Rewire and most of the Tools) everybody blames V64 but essentially it costs a lot of money to upgrade current 32bit stuff to run well in 64--nothing wrong with 64 itself).

You have a problem if you want to run new files saved in 8.5 back into 8.0.  But if I have something saved in a former Sonar I use that program to re-edit. Or if I open it in 8.5 I save it with a new file name like myproject8.5, then I have the old an new and double save everything to a separate internal second drive and an external drive and all final product to a hard CD or DVD.

But why would you want to take 8 off, 8.5 will migrate your folders, plugins, etc.  I have 6/7/8/8.5 on mine.  If you have it running in V64 now, I think you will have huge issues removing 8.

Music programs take a huge amount of space so you need huge drives.

If space is a problem, get a bigger hard drive and mirror your entire c drive to it with Norton Save and Restore.
