Sonar 8.5 with VST2 and VST3 Settings

Over at another forum, the question came to me about Sonar's suitability to the recording process.  All went well in the thread but a question has come up that many of you folks have far more experience than I, mostly regarding VST3 plugs and Sonar's ability to use them and retain settings.  Below is the question I received.  Any assistance is appreciated and I will forward on the answers.

"VST2 plugs will work on a VST3 platform but you can't save anything! So will Sonar let me run and save my presets on my current batch of plugs (including Steinberg VST2 plugs, UAD-1 Plugs, Classic Plugs, Voxengo Plugs, Modern Plugs, Lemon Twist Plugs, Isotope Plugs and my Melodyne Plugs)?"

Thanks and happy 2010

-D

i've heard around the way that VST3 is a scam by Steinberg, trying to make people think that because it's newer it's better and the new standard, but it's just a ploy to get people to use Steinberg products.  i have no idea if that is true (especially since i own no VST3 plugs) but it is what i've heard

3.5 Ghz AMD 6-Core/16 gigs RAM, Roland Quad-Capture, Win 10, Cakewalk by Bandlab, Komplete 10, z3ta+, Z3TA+ 2, Rapture, Maschine 2.7 (MKI & Jam), Melodyne 4 Studio, Ozone 4, Jam Origin MIDI Guitar 2, Schecter Damien Elite, Fender Sonoran w/TronicalTune Plus installed, etc

Sonar doesn't support VST3, but it does support VST2.

To answer the OP yes Sonar works very well with VST 2 plugs and you can save your presets.

Thinking VST3 is actually better than VST2 in any practical way is like saying you can find a better wife than you already have. That's the ignorance of today's generation. better isn't always relevant. if it aint broke, dont try to fix it. Unless you are foolish enough to let Cakewalk and all its third parties attach strings to your bank account every single year.
