from the Emu Production forum ("Emu Bruce"):
"Ok, Time to get the facts straight.
As I have stated several times over the past few months, Emulator X3 is not End of the line or End or life. If this is coming from Digital Village, then they are misinformed.
While Proteus X LE, Proteus VX, Proteus X2, Emulator X and Emulator X2 work for most users as a VSTi in Vista or Windows 7 32-bit versions and in stand-alone mode, they do not always work in Vista/Windows 7 64-bit in stand-alone mode. If a previous version works for you, then that is of course good for you, but we have no support for using a previous version of Emulator X or Proteus X in Vista or Windows 7. X3 is the solution we offer for use in Vista, Windows 7 and for 64-bit use.
These earlier versions are only tested and supported for use in Windows XP 32-bit. Proteus X LE, Proteus VX, Proteus X2, Emulator X and Emulator X2 are 32-bit applications and will never work as VSTi in XP x64, Vista x64 or Windows 7 X64. Only our Emulator X3 is fully 32-bit and 64-bit Vista compatible and preliminary testing is showing that X3 is working just as well in Windows 7 x64.
Summary: X3 is the solution we offer for use in Vista, Windows 7 and for 64-bit use.
We do not normally comment on future product development and we have no comment about X4 at this time. X3 W7 testing is still in progress and going well. No performance showstoppers. There can be some issues using RAID-0 and RAID-1 configurations that we may or may not be able to resolve. RAID configurations can get complicated and we need to spend more time testing and gathering data.
There are no drivers, and have never been any drivers associated with any version of Proteus X or Emualtor X. Drivers are almost always specific to hardware products.
Note that we wil likely be dropping support for XP64 in general as our Windows 7 suport grows. XP64 was never really a fully mature 64-bit OS and the majority of the top DAW programs do not support it as well."
